Got the new Hunter in. Originally I had only planned on keeping one of them but I didn't realize at the time that this Hunter is a little different. The handle is a bit different shape, balance is different, enough so that it feels like a different knife. I convinced myself that technically it's not a duplicate so yea, it's a keeper.

I have a couple of bushfingers, they are all slightly different... I know Andy is a knifemaking machine, but tolerances are expected in these customs!

Just a couple? :D

Great looking knives, Skystorm, the new Hunter is an old Hunter! The taper on the bone-handled model is completely malnourished....as in it's sickly thin.

Thanks for posting these side by side photos Skystorm. It is very interesting to how this model has evolved over time. Both knives are prime quality examples with beautiful tapered tangs. If I was forced to pick a favorite, I would choose the new (old) one because it looks like it would have more neutral balance. Then again, that Bone White one has such an insanely tapered tang that it may balance better. Each of Andy's knives are unique in subtle ways, so it is hard to judge from photos alone.

I would like to hear from you which one feels better if you had to pick one.

Thanks,

Phil

I have 3 new Hunters, one from early 2014, one from early 2013 and the third one I am not sure what the birthday is. The one born in early 2014 is an SFT whereas the other two are TT. The one born in 2014 has a handle like Sky's bone white linen, while the other two are similar to each other and Sky's darker handled Hunter. Does anyone know when Andy changed this handle design? As best I can tell it is sometime between March of 2013 and March of 2014.

Thanks Schmittie. I would argue that Sky's darker handle is of the post 2011 change announced in this thread, and his bone linen handle is possibly newer yet. It could simply be normal variation of the same design, but I also have an example of the wider pommel that Sky is pointing out above in the bone linen. Of my three, I date the wider pommel to early 2014. I have a thinner pommel one dated to early 2013 and the third thinner pommel one (same/similar to the 2013 one) is unknown, but similar to the 2011 change cited.

Old Skool vs New School.

Sorry for the crap cell phone pics - but it's all I have left. I let this old skool Hunter go to a new owner already.

Hey Phil,

If I had to pick only one I would take the Bone, the longer handle and swell at the end provide a more secure grip when not using a lanyard. They both balance right at the front pins, the green is shorter but also has a thicker tang so they are both dead even.

Man oh man I love those nice full round handles! I wish he still did those once in a while!

Nice work Schmittie! Man, those bushfingers with the jade green over white fiberglass are sweet!!! I love looking at those old threads.

:)

I enjoy those old threads too. Looking back, it's easier to see that the Hunters handle was very similar to the Ladyfinger. But now they are each their own.

.......I still like the old Bushfinger handle better.
