I think I saw a stainless steel NIB Hunter PE (G2 steel) and a display piece stainless steel executive CE (G2 steel) at a local shop. First off, I'm not sure it's the Executive - could someone pls post a picture? It had a body like the Hunter but a nice smaller shape blade.

They were going for approx $69 and $86 (after conversion into US dollars) respectively. Are those good prices? I know the models aren't generally available anymore. I don't have funds for those but maybe some of you are interested.

anyone have a picture of the Executive? I'm sure some of you have one, right?

The Executive is like a smaller Hunter. There is also a very similar model, the Spur. It looks like an Executive with kraton inserts. Well, sometimes they were out of Kraton and they had to put all sort of materials, from ivory to dinosaur bone ;)
I may try to find some pics, but I can't post them here :(

I would DEFINATELY, without a doubt buy the Executive for $69. That's a steal.

I believe we stopped making them more than 10 years ago. They are pretty rare Spyderco and will give you some insight into the development that's happened over the past 10 - 15 years in our designs capability.

The Executive is far rarer than the old Hunters. Buy it.

The Hunters come up on Ebay all the time. An appearance by an Executive on Ebay or anywhere is a rare sight.

I saw an early one still in use in Germany this Spring. The customer brought it by to show me. EDC and still in good shape.

Here is an Executive picture:

Edited to add: At least, this is what hamonoichiba.com was selling as the Executive. After rereading dialex's post, maybe this is actually the Spur??

It's hard to tell. There is no perspective in the picture, since it only shows the one model, open and closed. I wish it was shown next to a better known model.

The dimensions are listed as 145mm overall length and 60mm blade. That would make the blade about 2 3/8", which is slightly shorter than the ProVenator/ProGrip II at 2 7/8".

I was speaking in general rather than referencing the picture--I didn't make that very clear. Your answer got me to look at my pro venator (this preceded the hunter, something about a name change, or maybe vice versa?). Anyway mine is just over 2 3/4" from end of handle to blade tip. The back half of the butt end of the handle (inside edge) is longer and curved in more than the knife pictured, which has a shorter flat back half. I'm going to assume the one pictured is the Executive.

Thanks recoil, jazzman, et al, I thought something was off. I have a lefty Executive which was what I though it was. When I saw the kraton knife picture I thought perhaps there was a fancier version or something. The kraton knife definitely has a provenator shaped blade, but with an Executive shaped handle. So it is the Spur. Thanks.

Ok lets try this. Hope the picture comes out. In the pic are the PE pro-vent, CE Spur, SE Executive and a PE Executive, and a SE Hunter. Actually the PE Executive was my very first spyderco. Picked it up at a gun show probably almost 15 years ago. Hope this answers size questions. Sorry for the mediocre picture.

Thanks jyork. So Hunters didn't have Kraton. Sal, how rare is a lefty exec?

Thanx guys, great pics.

lefty execs would be 20% of the knives made. I don't have a number, Bob, but they are quite rare, especially in good condition.

ok, after looking at the pictures - it's definitely an executive I saw, but it's in combo edge. the price is $86, not $69 (that was the hunter). I don't like combo edge - I would have gotten it in an instant, if not for the combo edge - I thought it looked pretty neat.
I could have possibly gotten a 10% discount too.

Is the difference between a righty vs. lefty Executive only in the location of the clip? (Since the both the opening,as well as, the locking mechanism can be operated ambidextrously). Or are the serrations, if any, alternatively cut on the right side of the blade? Just wondering.

Dave, I like your photo of the Executive alot. The background of packing bubble material is, imo, very novel.

spyken, $86 for a new Executive is a good price. I bought a new (in box) PE Executive last year for around $110. I had ordered a PE Worker and the dealer sent me the Executive in error. I kept the knife and re-ordered the Worker. I find the Executive more practical as a user than the Worker. You might consider buying the Executive in lieu of one of the current-day small Spydies since not too many of your friends would be carrying it in their pocket.

Great question toothed, I hadn't noticed until you asked. Yes the serrations are on the right side of the blade, opposite the clip. All the other serrated spydies I checked are rightys and are the reverse of this. Great attention to detail Sal. Mine was a display piece if I remember correctly, and is mint no box, but definitely a keeper.
Spyken, I'd still go for it if I were you.
