Hunter Prototype #2! Pics

OHHH Snap! I really like the "Ready to do work!" look of this one.

Looks very nice. Balanced, comfortable, light weight, just enough point. Where is the balance point on it?

I'd be more than happy to test it out for you dude! Already got my 14/15 license and am dying to get out to Nevada and shoot some dogs! That and cats here in Cali. I bet that would work really well for skinning cats.

Love me a nice hunter pattern.

I must get one of these soon!

Nice work Daniel, looks like a great user, bet it slices nice!

It's a slicer! Sometimes I am just about scared to handle a knife and this is one of those.

dae just gets awesomer and awesomer .....

Much appreciated!

Is that a stonewash over bead blast?

I need a blast cabinet >_>

Yes, here's what I do.

- Clean finish is key as etching and tumbling will bring scratches out
- Garnet Blast (I use semi-precious stones :D ) The blast makes the etch better...
- Etch with Ferric Chloride solution and neutralize
- Tumble - the tumble burnishes everything back to a smooth finish

This process helps with rust prevention as it burnishes the steel and holds oil well.

No need for a blaster but it does help get a deeper etch. Take everything to 400-600 and etch for a few minutes. Make sure the knife is super clean, that is key. Scrub with dish soap and water, rinse, windex, rinse with R.O. water. Sometimes I repeat that!

Thanks! I work hard to move the balance point forward on knives like these otherwise they are heavy in the hand... but I forget the exact point and this one is on it's way to it's new owner.

I have a really old Ka-Bar hunting knife with the large pommel and leather handle. I like that knife but all of the weight is near the butt and I do not like how it rides in a sheath. I carried it for a couple of summers as a kid and if it wasn't snapped in it would fall right out because it was so unbalanced in the sheath. ...so sheath balance is important too!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I need to find more of this vintage scale material as I bought it a ways back and have no clue where to get more! It is green in some light and Earth brown in most. I came across a blasting technique that really works well to bring out micarta texture too... I am officially addicted to blasted micarta! :D

Oh snap! Wilson, deer season is quickly approaching, I want to see it in use!!! I've got to get me one of these... I would use The Stinger but with the white paper micarta it would be a stained mess afterwards.
