Here's a drop point hunter that I will be taking to the show in Missoula Friday. This is my first experience with koa and I'm liking it a lot. This piece has a TON of figure, curl and chatoyance that, as many others have noted, you can't catch in a picture.

Specs:
Hand-forged from 1084
8 3/4" overall, 4" blade .190" thick at the ricasso
Heavily rounded spine and ricasso edge for comfort
German silver guard and spacer
Coined spacer collar
Curly Koa handle
Held together with a hidden bolt on the butt end. I didn't want to put a pin in the koa.

Very nice. I really like the groove around the butt of the knife. Did you use a chainsaw file and work that in or a router?

Thanks for the comment.

The butt end is all hand filed, sanded and polished. I never considered a router but that would be tough to do with a router, I think.

Yeah I was just taking shots in the dark. Really like your work.

Very , very nice ! Aren't there any photo techniques to bring out the Chatoyance ?

Beautiful! I see you live in Hamilton. I used to cut meat at the Safeway there. I also cut meat in the Safeway on reserve in Missoula and the Albertsons on 39th and Russel. My girlfriend and I were up there last week to visit her sister and grandparents. We should never have left, way to pretty up there and I miss the fishing too.

Very clean, great looking knife John.
Great finish with the koa.
I really like the added touch of the coined spacer.

Thank you guys for the comments on this knife. I appreciate it.

Mete- there probably is a way but I don't possess the photo skills to do it. :)
