Here's a hunter I made for a lady to give here husband for his birthday. This was my first attempt at a tapered tang, I really scratched my head trying to figure out how to drill the scales out afterwards.. I'm sure there's an easier way then how I ended up doing it. Not sharp in the pic, and I still really need to get a makers mark. Critique and comments much appreciated, Thanks for looking!

length: 8"
steel: O1
handle: stabilized amboyna burl

The sheath I made for it

I like that a lot!! How'd you get that kinda aged finish on the blade? I've been trying to get a nice finish like that that doesn't involve using acid

thanks guys

Nic, I used ferric chloride to etch then steel wool. It's the only thing that's worked that nicely for me so far. I tried hot vinegar etch before and lemon juice but this just seemed to do the trick. Any reason you'd rather not use it?

Ok, thanks. I used hydrochloric and it refused to neutralize before getting splotchy and wierd. Never tried FC though, I'll have to try that

thanks again

yeah that is a good idea MT borg, I probably should have paid more attention to the inside of the lanyard hole as well now that I look at it. thanks for pointing that out
