Hi all - I have a knife that I've had for over 35 years and when my mom gave it to me she said it was her dad's so if I had to guess I would estimate it is at least from the 40's or 50's but may be older (my grandpa passed away in '73 and the knife looked quite old when I got it in about '83).

On the blade it has inscribed "The Hunters Companion" and right above the guard it it is marked with MARSH BROS & C o/s CELEBRATED". Originally I couldn't read the inscription and my post was going to be about helping to ID the knife (even with 2 pairs of reading glasses on I thought it said March instead of Marsh until I took a picture for this forum and zoomed in lol). If you see the picture it makes me wonder if they stamped the engraving on or how it got on because both of the "S" in Marsh and Bros is missing the middle section that makes me wonder if their die was chipped - kind of cool to think about. So now that I know who the maker is I'd love for some info on age and any history on the maker. I do not have a sheath for it.

Here are some pictures:

Thanks all and happy Friday!

Hey guys, I am new and I did read the pins on this forum so I believe I am in the right place with this post but my apologies if I'm not. I am new and in searching for information about my grandpa's knife that I had since I was a boy and trying to find out more about it I thought I had found the perfect place to satisfy the curiosities I've had since I was a young boy. My grandfather died when before I turned 1 and the only 2 items I own that were his are 2 knives. Please know that I'm not interested in selling them, but I am curious to know how old are they? Did he buy them late in life or did he possibly have them for years, I'm guessing the handle is faux stag. It looks like he repaired it at some point - the guard must have come loose so he did some brazing or something to keep it from moving. Thanks all and again, I'm hoping I don't overstep any rules if I did so it was unintentional and I did try to educate myself with the rules. Hopefully someone can provide some knowledge and insight! Thanks and kind regards

After more research it appears that this is probably a bit older than I first estimated. I found information that stated the Marsh Bros abandoned knife production in the 1890's (apart from razors) and decided to concentrate on making engineer's tools.

Bright lights, a magnifying lens (from my Swiss Army Champion lol) and careful inspection revealed that the 2nd knife I mention above is marked AW Wadsworth Czechoslovakia with an XLNT trade mark. Research leads me to believe it to be circa 1920.

You should request this be moved to Bernard Levine's forum. You'll probably have better luck there.

Great recommendation, thank you for the suggestion and pointer! I'll probably delete this and repost directly on the Bernard Levine board
