So, last week, I won a drawing on Instagram for a free custom knife from Hunters Edge Knives. The owner (Hunter) is an 18-year-old knifemaker from Alaska. I don't think he has a website yet, but he is on Instagram and Facebook. So, my new blade (and kydex sheath) came in the mail today!

Specs
Steel: 01 Tool Steel
Handles: Olive Drab G10
OAL: ~8"
Cutting Edge: ~3.5"

And a picture!

When I first pulled the blade out the package, my first thought was that the handle looked awfully thin. Granted, I am used to the grip on my Beckers, but even with that caveat, I was concerned how it would feel in hand. I have to say, for the size handle, its is very comfortable to hold and I feel that I get a good solid grip on it. The texturing on the G10 is superb and allows for some great control of the blade.

For those of you who speak "Becker," here is a side-by-side of the Hunters Edge next to a stripped Ka-Bar/Becker BK14.

This blade came SHARP out of the box - passed the paper test and arm hair test with no problem. Hunter has a couple videos on Instagram testing his blades on paper and he really puts a great edge on his knives. Looking forward to getting some use out of this blade to see how it performs in daily tasks!

Awesome write up! Success to Hunter! Looks like he puts out some great work! Esp. for only being 18 y.o!

Did a little work with this blade tonight. I read that bamboo shavings can make good tinder after you dry it out and we have a big stand of bamboo in our backyard that needs to be cut back every so often. This blade does a great job of making everything from tiny shavings to longer, super thin strands.

This was the first real work I've done with it (been breaking in several new blades recently). The handle is definitely thinner than I'm used to on a fixed blade, but worked really well once I adjusted my grip. Really quite ergonomic.

Also, here's a slight mod I made to the sheath. I added a ranger band and then ran a velcro belt keeper purchased at the local Army/Navy surplus store to attach it to molle.
