Gonna be getting a new hunting knife this year before the season starts. I've been thinking about a Camillus Talon, or something by Busse, and a few others. Please, give me any and all suggestions for this. Thanks!

Check out the CRKT Alaska Bwana.
You can spend more, but there is no need to. Excellent knife.

Bryan, What are you hunting? that will help. Are we talking big game, birds, hogs?

Be sure to take a look at the buck vanguard.
And if you look really hard you might even find one of the master-series with a BG-42 blade.

I've got a lot of hunters, production and customs. But the one that goes with me more than any other is the Marbles Fieldcraft in 52100.

You can't beat it in my opinion.

Look at the Bob Dozier knives on A.G. Russel's web site under the custom section. For me they have just been great. My favorites are the Pro-skinner and the slim outdoorsman. But he has several others that would serve equally well.

Whitetail deer. Maybe a few axis or fallow, too.

Dozier makes a great hunting knife, and Busse has just come out with some beauties too :D

There's a new Busse skeleton knife that is yet to be named that I think would make a great hunting knife, especially for caping.

Also the new Busse Badger Attack III and Groove Master. Both would make a GREAT hunting knife.

If you want more information, check out the Busse website or forum here on BF.

Check out the New Busse Badger Attack or Groove Master. The Groove Master is designed with the hunter in mind. Might be exactly what you need.

The New Badger(BAIII) and Groovemaster aren't on the website yet. Drop me an email and I'll forward some info and pics.

Brian, I don't think you ever mentioned how much you want to pay. There are probably more "hunting knife" styles out there, both production and custom, than any other type of knife!

There are lots of other variables too depending on how you like to manipulate a knife when hunting. I know deer hunters who want a big choil so they can choke up on the blade. Others don't like a choil cause they like to hold the blade to the side and not straight up and down. I know one hunter who insists his knife handles have rectangular cross-sections so he can tell what position the blade is in when he's up to his elbows in gore and can't see the knife behind the guts. Other hunters don't seem to care about this, or use other characteristics of the handle shape to feel the knife's position... Of course knife size, blade width/thickness, etc. are also important factors to consider.

You've got to think about what you like. Make a list of those characteristics and then ask about knives that fit them...

A.G. Russell's Bob Dozier page is a very good call. Go take a look.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, the Schrade Sharpfinger has got to be one of the best kept secrets of the hunting knife world. Also, though I have never used one, people speak highly of the Spyderco Moran. Decent deal over at 1SKS for those.

Happy hunting!
