As some of you may know, Amanda and I both got a deer this season. They are not monsters but they were great first deer and will be enjoyed for many meals to come. It was a humbling experience for the both of us that we will not forget.
Of course Beckers were used for the field dressing and butchering, as well as one custom Ulu by Jim Bensinger.
I used a BK-14 for the field dressing. Battoned a BK-2 to separate the rib cages. A BK-5 and a BK-15 to help quarter the deer. The BK-5 is one hell of a blade and it made it easy to remove the shoulders in pretty much one smooth cut around the shoulder. I haven't used the BK-5 much but after using it in a butchering role I can see that I need a few more 5s in my collection.
The surprise star would have to go to the Ulu made by Jim Bensinger. Sorry fellow Beckerheads, that ulu was invaluable during the entire process.
Here are some pictures. I didn't get a lot since there was a lot of work to be done and our hands were messy and slippery through most of the work.
Speaking of messy and slippery hands. This process was a great test for the Grivory and Zytel handles. The knives never slipped out of our hands or became a danger at anytime. Due to their shape the handles allowed us to work and not have to think about the knife.
Amanda's 116.5 pound 4 pointer.
My 119 pound unicorn... lol
Post field dressing.
Skinning.
Beckers ready to rock, BK-5 not pictured
Becker got a bone out of the deal.
I wish I had taken more pictures and video of the BK-5 in the butchering process. It is one hell of a blade.
Feel free to post your pictures of hunting and butchering with Beckers.
Be safe and have fun.
Jeremy
