I wanted to do a big hike yesterday but I had a hockey game to go to later in the day so I decided to go out with the Khukuri and look for some fat wood at the swamp by my house. This is one of my favorite areas, it's my go to spot for just about everything, hunting, walking, and just peace. Theres no trails, it's a dense very large wooded area with a swamp in the center.

Lake Champlain is still a flowin` ~2 miles west of me is lake Champlain and ~2 north of me is all dense forest, makes for a nice close playground.

There was a cow moose right on the edge of the ice just to the right of the picture but I didn't get the camera out fast enough before she took off.

Instead of helping me hack up a stump Sonya decided looking for small creatures was more fun

About 5 minutes work. Don't be lazy and buy fat wood at walmart go out and find your own.

Speaking of moose, I was just browsing through some old pictures and thought I'd share this I love this picture. I was on a 3 day backpacking trip on the long trail in vermont and I met this guy (guy in the picture) along the way, we hiked together for the next two days, we stopped to have lunch one afternoon and I said "Tim, don't move theres a moose right behind you!"

Great scenery and info VT, and that's a beautiful dog. Thanks for a great post.

I live in Northern CA, the woods areas around hear are almost made up entirely of white pine, spruce, redwood etc. Finding fatwood hear, is like trying to find a burger at Burger King. The whole forest
reeks of pine resin most of the time.

Nice pics. Be careful as that black bump in the center of top pic may be Champ !!! (Jaws music in background)
:D

Cool outing. I saw that first pic right after I read the word swamp and thought we had entirely different definitions of what a swamp was. :D What size is that Kuk? I just got my first in the mail yesterday.

That's a 15" WWII.

I hope that's not a house in the background. Either way, shooting into water is a no no. You can never tell where the bullets end up.

Yep, I know its a no no and unsafe, and I shouldn't have done it, but sometimes the redneck idiot deep inside me wins. Not a lived in trailer in the background, I'm the only person for 4 square miles. In the kindest way, I'm glad that you brought it up early so it isn't turned into a soap box. Lets nip the safety issue in the bud and appreciate the whole video. There is a reason its not public

Back to the fatwood. Despite this fatwood being completely immersed, most of the year, it catches fire RIGHT away.
