im in the market to pick up a nice fixed blade for hunting. i was looking at the spyderco mule. i like it because its modern, but i would also love a traditional stag or bone style. im looking to spend about 200 or less, maby even like 80$

Check out Svord. Their convex edged hunting knives are great, and L6 steel is super tough, so you wont chip your blade if you hit bone.

Fallkniven makes some excellent fixed blade that are more than serviceable hunting knives. I particularly like the H1 and F1.

there are many, but here are a few different choices to consider:

1. A G Russell deer hunter

2. knives of alaska alpha wolf

3. spyderco moran

4. lonewolf (banchmade) drop point

Fits your criteria.

BRK, Fox River, Antique Stag Bone.

That's their most popular hunting knife, but they have other models to chose from too.

For field dressing I like the smaller Woodland Special.

BRK, Woodland Special, Antique Smooth Bone.

I also like my Dozier's in hunting camp.

Dozier Custom Housatonic Hunter and Straight Hunter.

But these are a bit out of your price range.

Here's a few, the Gerber Freeman in stag and S30V ~ $100-$125, if you can find it; the CRK 'Nyala' in S35VN - $229; and the Benchmade 15005-2 Bone Collector Fixed Blade Hunter in D2 ~$100-$110.

Also, the quintessential hunting knife - the Buck 119 'Special', available as close as WallyWorld for <$40. All four knives thus far have been US-made. Then there is the Swedish keeper - a Mora knive of 1095 carbon steel - like the 'deluxe' version shown below with the Buck 119. It is a Morakniv HighQ Robust ~$28.

The CR Knives Nyala is a great fb knive... but, for $200 less - the Buck 119 or even a Mora knife is a tough act to follow. Choices...

Good luck!

Used the Mora Robust ($15) carbon steel blade successfully. The handle is very comfy and doesnt slip when wet.

i bought the Mora Companion recently and it is a very comfortable knife to use. granted all mine has seen is kitchen use.

Queen makes a bunch of hunting knives with various blade shapes and handle options. They all have Queen's excellent D2 steel. They come with a serviceable leather pouch type sheath and every one of them is under $90, with the cheapest being checkered oak at $40. I took the pictures from http://collectorknives.net/queen-knives.html. The site owner is a paid dealer here on BF (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/935876-***List-Of-Bladeforums-Dealers***) and I've had good experiences ordering from him. Here's a sampling of the various patterns. I'm only posting one of each handle type.

I don't know what your experience is with sharpening, but it's highly likely these will arrive in need of a reprofiling. You'll need diamond stones or 3M wet/dry sandpaper. It's not a horrendous task, but it will take a little time. For the price, great steel, nice handle materials and leather sheath included it's hard to complain. I have the one pictured in gold redwood burl.

This for all purpose and skinning. ^^^^^ The F-1 is a great little fixed blade. You can go as cheap as Mora and it'll get the job done. You don't always have to spend a ton of money. I've dressed out a few White Tails with nothing but a Buck 110 folder. :)

you and me both man, the 110, 112 and the fixed blades Buck offers will be more than adequate for 99% of the hunters here in the USA.
when i started hunting as a kid thats all that everyone used

you should see my rack collection i have hanging in the barn...10 pointers arent really something we get overly excited about LOL. the cold weather weeds out the sick, and with all the corn fields, they get fed well around here. Iowa is the best whitetail hunting in the states imo

I know, it's a fact.

My brother-in-law came up from Texas where they have lots of deer with a lot of points on their racks but they're really scrawny. Probably lack of all the corn and other feed we have in the Midwest. Ohio has some pretty big bodied bucks too.

Anyway my dad had a beautiful typical 8 pointer mounted because he was such a big bodied deer, with thick beams and all. He give it to my sister's husband cuz he wanted it to mount and watch all of their friends jaws drop when they saw the size of the head and the thickness of the rack.

Back on topic, the cheap Schrade Sharpfinger has gutted and field dressed more than it's share of deer too.

Bought a swamp rat HRLM; seems awesome! we will see how the blade plays its roll in the field! hopefully pics soon. I have a monster 12 pointer mounted in my house. The buck has a small rack, but that's very common in New York. Buck brand fixed blades are not appealing to me. i have one of them and the initial bevel grinding at the tip portion of the blade has a very obtuse angle. I also used a cheapo defender knife before getting into collecting, and i snapped the blade clean off the handle . The tang ran through the handle. just shows you howmuch a quality knife is worth the money.
