Hey guys, I'm hoping to have better luck here than I did when I asked on another forum.

I'm getting ready to spend a couple of months in El Paso and id like to do some hunting while I'm there. Id really like to get after some hogs, but I'm open to pretty much anything.

If anybody has some information or tips for a visitor to the area about hunting or fishing, id appreciate it a bunch.

Thanks in advance

your best bet is to check with local game wardens. i'm not sure there is a decent population of hogs. althpugh hogs are one of the most widespread & tenacious of all animals they require some water to survive. find water or marsh & you will find hogs. what i've seen of el paso looks very barren.

You do realize it's desert? There's not much in the way of hogs around there that I know of; you'd have to drive several hundred miles.

Too bad you didn't plan this better. You could have gone for Ibex (Gemsbok); they're wild on White Sands. But you need a tag.

Check the local rules, it may still be Quail season. Helps if you have a dog.

Too late for dove.

Coyote is open (at least, it should be).

I wouldn't hunt anywhere near the river. Both sides are likely to shoot anyone with a weapon.

I use to live in Austin, hunted Desert Mule Dear in Van Horn but that was by permit as well as that was back in 1986. Hunted Rabbits, Quail, Coyote around the El Paso area. Also look into New Mexico. If your down there that long I will tell you the odds are better hunting there.

Thanks for the tips guys. Is the permit for ibex just the normal on post stuff, or is there more to it? I'll be back around the end of summer as well, Maybe that's something to look into then.

I'll do some digging on the new Mexico thing too.

I have guided all over west tex and new mexico . Put in the draw next month to hunt muleys in the unit s around Carls bad and hobbs and take topos while your there and hunt on the river on BLM around carlsbad and south of Loving there are pockets with lots of hogs . In the meanwhile make friends with someone with a big ranch aruond sierra blanca or van horn to expeirence great muley hunting .
