Hey Guys!
Just letting y'all know I'm knew to the site and will hopefully be posting quite a bit because I love knives. Anyways to the point. Do any of you know a nice knife for skinning/dressing that I can get for less than 100$ or a little above maybe 125$? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe take a look at the Izula II, its a nice little fixed blade thats handles hunting tasks pretty well..

Lots of good hunting knives out there. My next one will be a Buck Vanguard with the rubber grip. You can find it for $50. You can get a Bark River at the higher end of your price range.

The Izula II has a nice drop point shape. I got one in the mail recently, with the 'survival pack' delivered to Canada for around $75. The izula II is about 3" long, which is a nice length for hunting. The ESEE 3 might also make a good choice. Do note that the Izula is a 1095 carbon, so if you don't take care of it the cutting edge can and will corrode (especially if you leave blood on it). If you take care of your knives and clean them as soon as you are done, you won't have issues. Carbon steel is amazing at taking an edge, and is very easy to sharpen. I can't recommend it enough.

Keith on the forum makes beautiful sharpfinger shaped knives (based on the Shrade Sharpfinger), that make excellent skinners. From past posts, his knives often fall within your price range. I believe i've seen some of his in AEB-L, which is the traditional steel that razors are made out of. Corrosion resistant AND takes a stupid sharp edge. If you can find a nice drop point hunter in AEB-L you are set.

+1 on Bark river. Blind horse knives make excellent knives of similar quality for less. You should check their website.

Send me a PM if you want a link to where I got my Izula from. The merchant was very helpful.

I use my ESEE 3 to clean deer and have had no issues at all. If you want a production knife take a good hard at the Spyderco Southfork, its S90V will hold an edge forever.

+1 on the Buck Vanguard, a really comfortable knife to use, great Buck stainless steel and a nice sheath. I use it when hunting goats and it certainly makes short work of them.

You can hunt goats? I had no idea! Where in the world can you hunt goats? I am intrigued. As an aside, I LOVE goat meat.

Australia. We have them feral in the hills around here (west of Sydney) and a buddy and I head out from time to time to help keep them under control on a friend's property and put some extra food on the table at the same time. :)

LUCKY! If I lived in Australia, i'd hunt the Bearded Goats as well. I think they are one of the more healthful meats to eat. Tasty and very lean. I LOVE Kangaroo as well. Do you need a special license for Roo? I hear there is an overpopulation problem on them Joeys as well.

In Canada I have to settle for moose, bear, salmon, goose, duck and deer. I know...it's a rough go. Wild Meat rocks my socks.

EDIT:
Searched google. WE HAVE MOUNTAIN GOATS! :D

Shoot a roo and you are up for a $10,000 fine!!! Any native animal in fact. Joeys are just young kangaroos. Yeah, you have it pretty tough over there in Canada, clearly. ;)

Sorry for hijacking the thread. Better get back on topic. Get the Vanguard

I used to own one of the rubber handle Vangaurds in ATS-34 and it was the best production hunting knife I have ever owned.

Welcome to Blade Forums Sir. As a avid hunter and knife guru I can tell you it's going to be up to your personal preference. There are some great custom knife makers on this site that make some great hunting knives that would fit your budget. My choice for production knives would be the Becker Bk 15,16,or the 17 with 1095 blade steel. The Buck Pro Vantage folder with s30v blade steel. The Blind Horse Mavrick Scout with O1 tool steel. Jeff White makes some nice Knives which can be seen on E-bay. Man, I could go on and on. I would suggest googling each of the knives I suggested and look at the Images and reviews of each of the knives. And go to the knife makers exchange on this site and search the custom knives for sale. I sure hope this helps.

I had one too that I paid something like $50 for. Had no idea how good that ATS-34 was and sold it like a dummy on fleabay for $50. Needless to say, it sold immediately. The ergos on that knife are perfect for field dressing and skinning most North American game.

That being said, I've had my eye on the Spyderco Bill Moran hunter knives. Decent price, decent grippy handle, nice VG-10. I'd also consider some of the Knives of Alaska hunters. I have one in D2 and the steel is great for field work, as it holds a good edge for long hunting trips.

Alright guys thanks for the recommendations. After looking at the Buck Vanguard I can say my heart is set. I was also loking and was curious If anyone has encountered these knives?
1. Gerber Winchester Fixed Blade
2. Fury Sporting Cutlery De Soto.
bOTH 19.99 i THINK. Kinda worries me that they are that cheap.

if you want a great hunting knife for little cost consider the buck bucklite max 679. I have the orange handled version without the guthook and it has served me well the past few hunting seasons.

Check out the Cabela's version of the Vanguard with S30V steel. Someone on the Buck forum swore that he did a side by side comparison of Buck's 420hc vs. their S30V and felt the S30V stayed sharp longer under the same field dressing conditions (i.e. whitetail deer).

Take a look at Blind Horse Knives the make many traditional fixed bladed great for hunting. Ive used a "Work horse" for years now for White tail deer. Lower Price but not bad are the Kershaw Skinning knife or Feild Knife both to be had for like 45 dollars US. If all else fails break out the Ol' Buck 110 I cannot tell you how many times that knife has been my go to for dressing game.

Total crap, most likely. There're a few good hunting knives out there for at or around $20, but those aren't on the list.
(By the way... you do know how to sharpen a knife, don't you? Because if you don't, you'd better learn.)
