Hunting Knife

I just bought my first Kershaw last week (Spec Bump S30V) and will be looking for a straight blade to take hunting, so gut hook would be preferred but not necessary since I will be hunting boar with the knife. That's right, no gun or bow- just knife !! Any suggestions?
 
Not exactly a straight blade. But I read some where that the Outcast was based on a knife that Ken Onion uses to hunt hogs with.

My suggestions:

1. Make out your will first.
2. I hope you are joking.
3. You should get your Spec Bump engraved with "What was I thinking?"
4. A real man hunts wild boar with his bare hands!
 
No kidding. I haven't done it yet, but I will. I pllan on being scared out of my wits- but that is what it's all about !!

If you want to be scared out of your wits, just leave your knives out on the counter and email me your address !!!
 
You should NOT have a gut hook on a pig-sticking blade. You are real likely to have the blade pulled out of your hand. You want a blade made out a carbon steel with a real good grip. I can see how ashtxsniper recommends against any Kershaw knife for this purpose. It would void the warranty and probably your life insurance.

For an economical choice you might look at the Kabar Heavy Bowie (Long) with the 9-inch blade. It is made of 1085 which should be tough enough for the job. http://www.knifeoutlet.com/shop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=KAB1276
 
No, I agree. I would not want a gut hook knife on a pig sticker. That would be a HUGE mistake. I would get a belly full of tusk. I was thinking more of a gut hook to field dress and one to stick. I should have made myself clearer. Sorry.
