Let's start this, as I've seen a couple great morel hunters on here. Please post some pics of them.
Right before I joined BFC, I started this project with my 8-year old! I consider it the first knife of my current era. It's made for mom, so it is lightweight 6al4v, weighing just over 6 oz. It's about 12" OAL. Yes, I know 6al4v isn't good for knives as it doesn't take a very good edge. However, it is very light and you really don't need that sharp of a knife to hunt morels. The tip is a steep Tanto style. First, this is an easier design for a beginner(straight edges, no curves to fuss with), and second, it knifes right through the base of the morel very easily!

Haha, I see you're in Iowa, how about sharing some of your good hunting spots?!? ;)

...just kidding:D

Cool knife, the tip looks more chisle than tanto to me though.

Happy hunting!

so far our count is 5 black sponge and 2 grey's in our woods in central Indiana, We need a good rain and a warm day and they'll be shootin through the ground!

Raining today! We found a few small greys last weekend. I figure they should be out this weekend.

Yeah, the angle of the knife makes it look like a chisel. The angle is about 75 degrees.

Is "knifes" a word??

Anyway, nice work!

Glad to hear you are getting the kids and Mom involved!

Yes, "knifes" is a word, only upon reflection it is a verb, not a noun. I fixed this in the above post and will remember this in the future.

I still haven't seen pictures of anyone else's yet. . . .

But we have to carry a knife to cut through the woods anyway. You can find lots of morel staffs, why not a morel knife?

BTW: we found about 3 lbs yesterday! All of which were about 5" tall!
