I took a little time this afternoon to touch up the hunting knives my wife and I will be using the most for the upcoming season. The top 2 belong to her.

Top to bottom :
Bark River Sidekick in CPM M4
Hess Knives Whitetail in 1095
Dozier K-8 Semi Skinner in D2
Bark River Manitou in CPM CRUWEAR

We are heading to Wyoming in a couple weeks to kick off the season with an antelope hunt, then we'll come back to Missouri and have bow and rifle deer season through January of next year.

What are your hunting knives for this year's big game seasons?

Nice selection, these are my go to knives for hunting, Ontario RAT 1 as a utility/back up and the SOG SEAL Pup is main gutting/skinning knife.

I use this Camillus my brother gave me for either a Christmas or birthday. Had a gut hook but I ground that off and touched up the paint from the grinding. It’s a cheap knife but it’ll take a good edge and keep it with its thin blade stock. Cheaper 440 steel. I’ve butchered a lot of deer with this knife. I just like the thingIMG_2238.jpegIMG_2241.jpeg

710DLC-1 for field dressing and Sprig for butchering.

Probably have an Endura around somewhere too. K390 worked well last year as long as it got rinsed and wiped after use.

Last year my wife and I combined for six deer total. Probably won't match that this year with a new baby around but hoping to at least get a couple.

Also, talking steel, I really like M390 for this purpose.

I've used plenty of others and been happy with them but M390 (at least as done by Benchmade in that 710, and as 204P by Spyderco in a Military) is just a really nice combination of wear resistance and stainlessness while also still possible to quickly touch up on ceramics.

That's the one point against S90V for me; if the edge gets too dull I really hope I brought at least a diamond diafold sharpener.

Hunting knives have certainly changed since the late 70's and early 80's. All I used for deer was an LB7, 110, sharp finger or Buck 102 or 118. Those also work for small games and fish.
Good luck to all that are able to get out this season

Hasn't changed that much. I'll be using my 110. Unless I lose it moving. At which point I might take one of my other knives, or just buy another 110.
