Next weekend our Archery deer and elk season starts here in Oregon. I can't wait... I spend 11 months of the year waiting to go hunting.
Our season lasts for 5 weeks.

We have hunted the same area for quite a few years, and every year we are into deer and elk almost daily. As anyone that archery hunts knows, just because you see them, doesn't mean you will get a shot.

We always set up our tents before the season starts. It just makes it easier when we get to camp. The area we hunt is perrty remote, and very few people are in the area. In all the years we have been hunting this area, we have never had any problems with people messing with anything, while we aren't there.
So today we drove up and set up the tent, and checked the trail cam. It is only about 60 miles from home to camp. There have been elk and deer in the area daily, and they were back in early this morning

Anyway, here are a few pictures I took from camp.

Very nice. Our season opened on the coast last month. No deer, but flung a few arrows at hogs and missed. This last weekend the rest of the state opened for archery. 101 degrees, 6000 acre forest fire adjacent to our hunting area, saw one good buck, but blew the shot. Going to take a few weeks off to regroup for rifle season in Sept. Best of luck to you, and as always, post pics when you return. That's some beautiful country you're in.

Thats a piece of heaven on earth right there my friend, happy hunting and enjoy your time in that special place.

Sounds like you are getting off to a rough start. Hopefully rifle season will work out better for you.

Thanks Mike. It truly is. The best 5 weeks of the year, are spent at camp, hunting. Even on years I'm not successful, just spending time there, is what I live for.

oregon is beautiful country

Thanks rm... It is a beautiful state. I was born here, and have been here for almost 51 years. Sometimes I find myself taking it for granted, so I have to stop and look around. It reminds me how fortunate I am.

Beautiful pics Mike. I hope your son brings home some steaks. I sure wish I was able to get out there this year. Perhaps next year...

When you get back, your son will be receiving this little Will Crump necker.

BFC member goatariba gave it to Mack a few years back and Mack wanted to pass it on to a deserving young man. I hope he enjoys it.

Thanks Mack. I thought for sure he was going to get a deer this weekend, but we just couldn't get a good shot.
We were standing around camp last night, and I was thinking, Mack would really like it here

Thanks Karen. I got to see it when Mack and I met awhile back. It's a neat little knife, and I know Travis will be very happy. I'm not telling him though. I will really surprise him.

He really is a good kid, and enjoys spending time hunting and fishing. Hopefully he will get a chance to use it this season. We still have 4 more weeks left in the season.
He really likes knives too. I don't know who he got that from :D

Gosh, I wonder where he got that?:D
You're right. Mack would love to be out there. Maybe next year.
BTW, you may want to get to the mail before your wife gets all the smoked salt.;)

That's spectacular country. I gotta get my kids out hunting with me, time is running out...
