Took Cooper out this weekend to do a little Duck, Grouse and Woodcock hunting. He did great with over a dozen flushes. We managed to get him a couple woodcock but all he really wanted was to keep hunting..

Didn't get any ducks but found these antlers along the stream..Not from last hunting season. Maybe hit by a car? No body just skull..

Great looking dog, I love Labs! My old black Lab, Beau, was with me for 13 years, a great companion. Thanks for sharing.

That Olivewood is spectacular.

Jeff

It sure is, it got a lot of attention at my club.. Tried to do a little marketing but none of the "knife" guys were up this weekend. We'll see what happens during Deer season..;)

Yeah Cooper is a great dog, 3 years old, loves hunting and is a well behaved house dog.

Man,what a great time that must have been, great weather, natures bounty & a great buddy to share it with.(me jealous)

I remember back in the 80s Woodcock were fairly scarce but there were some in the woods I hunted out in NC.Quick little rockets,I got startled many a time while out deer, squirrel & rabbit hunting.Them suckers were gone in a blink of an eye.

lucky lucky. I've ben trying to find time to hunt this season . we have lots and lots of game in Michigan but time is always short.
enjoy every minute of it.
on the antler note. I know here in Michigan there is a sickness that the deer are getting ,almost like a fever. the dear end up finding bodies of water and standing in them until they die.
apparently it's becoming more and more common for people to find deer carcasses or skeletons in water and Riverways here in the State.
I wonder if its some of the same or just coincidence. probably just coincidence.
Ps wouldn't trade my lab "bumper boy 9 yrs old" for the world

So far Chronic Wasting Disease has only been found in some "captive" deer herds in P.A. I'm guessing (hoping) a car hit this deer or something else happened(not disease) and coyotes dragged the rest of it away. It's possible I guess it's from last season but you'd think the mice would have gotten it over the summer.

Ok thats what its called .
I know we have had problems here in mi must be its just rumor then if its only in p.a.
You know how hunters love to bs ha ha.

What a great way for a man to spend his days. I am seriously envious.
Thank you so much for sharing. It gives me ideas to look forward to.

Thanks for the pictures and report!

That is a nice set of antlers - must have been quite a buck.

Your lab is cute! I have never had one but one of my good friends has had a couple over the years. They love to play and love water, great companions!

best

Nice pics and beautiful pup there!

My buddy that taught me how to hunt always told me a wounded (especially hemorrhaging) deer will seek water and lay in it. Perhaps the deer was wounded by hunter or other cause and made its way to the water?

Well this was probably Coopers last outing before gun season opens for Deer but he did great. He's a decent flusher but his strong point is retrieving, he'll find any bird and bring it back and drop it at your feet. He really surprised us this weekend when he pointed 3 birds, really wish I had the camera instead of a gun when he did it. His other milestone was he retrieved his first duck. It's all good!

A proud boy..:)
