Does anyone use a Glock 20 10MM as a primary weapon for hunting? If so, what have you successfully taken with it? Was the kill quick and clean? What rig and set-up did you use? How is your Glock equipped? Any information, especially actual hunting experiences, would be greatly appreciated. I have several small food plots where shots are limited to around forty yards, and I may try my Glock on a whitetail this fall. THANKS.

I have not personally but witnessed a whitetail taken with a G20 by a friend of mine. Distance was about 20 yds and he put two rounds into it without waiting to see the affects of the first. It went down quickly and humanely. He used Winchester Black Talon for the ammo. I would think that a load that replicated the original Norma would work best 200 gr at 1200 fps. The G20 proved to be one of the strongest platforms when fed a steady diet of this load. My SS Delta Elite did not last long feeding it the Norma ammo. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at the Buffalo Bore 220 Hard Cast load as a possible hunting round. Did your friend have any optics on the Glock? I'm considering a red-dot of some type and, possibly, the longer factory "hunting" barrel.

Never as primary but ALWAYS my sidearm for hunting as well as hiking, fishing, camping, really anything way out in the sticks it's with me. I prefer Underwood ammo for 10mm as it's extremely powerful and reliable and the velocities on the box are tried and true with many a chrono. I usually keep it loaded with 15+1 180gr TMJ's @1300 fps for innawoods. In winter it's my CC and it's full of Underwood 155 grain Speer GD BJHP's that produce 1500 fps out of the muzzle and an impressive 775 ft/lbs of ME. I was never a Glock person but I absolutely love every aspect of the G20. Mine is a Full size Gen 3 and I couldn't be happier. I know people that take deer and hogs often with their G20's. It's truly a beast and with nothing but barrel swaps can fire four different calibers.

Thanks for the info, AK. I will check out the Underwood ammo also. Have you taken any game with your Glock? Do you use an optic sight?

Don't know what state you're in, but here we have caliber, barrel length, and case length regulations. 10 mil doesn't make it here.(to short)

The case length isn't even in the short list DNR regs you get over the counter anymore but it is still on the books.

Otherwise, I've heard you can kill a deer with a .38 short, no reason a 10 mil wouldn't do it.

I never checked to see if there was magazine limit on handguns in this state for hunting, if not it's because DNR hasn't thought of it yet.

what ever you do, shot placement is the key.
Handgun hunting is more challenging because of the amplification of mistakes that comes from a handgun versus a long gun.

Good luck.

Yes it would work fine , have killed 13 or so with a handgun . 357 , 44 and now a 1911 in 45 acp . Just pick your shots ,and don't try to shoot to far away .

Thanks for the comments. I am in Georgia, so the Glock 20 is a legal firearm. On a related note..., for the first time EVER, Georgia has passed a law making suppressors legal for hunting. It went into effect July 1, 2014. I should have provided more information in my original post...... I have hunted with revolvers and single- shots for years. I also hunted for a few seasons with a scoped Desert Eagle. The Glock 20SF belongs to a friend who is interested in selling it due to ammo availability and expense (he doesn't hunt), and I am just researching to determine how it might fit into my hunting arsenal. Thanks.

I have a G20 with a aftermarket 6 inch KKM barrel. I would not under any circumstances shoot, the aftermarket hot stuff in a factory barrel. I will preface my next statement with the fact I love my G20, shoots near .41 mag velocities and with my KKM barrel is a lazer. That said when I first got was shooting some upper end factory ammo and I had a Kaboom from an unsupported factory barrel. Stung the crap out of my hand as it drove the mag release into my palm. Sent the whole thing back to Glock told them what had happened. They replaced the lower said the upper was fine. I went right out and bought the KKM barrel. No more problems. I gotta say with that gun and 2, 15 round mags full of 180 gr. hollow points traveling 1150 fps. I do not feel undergunned while hiking in the woods.

Thanks. I agree that the Glock is a formidable outdoors sidearm; however, I already have numerous handguns that meet that requirement. I am solely interested in the Glock as a hunting weapon. What size groups are realistic with the 6" barrel?

This 3 shot group was shot from a measured 33 yds. from a rest. If I had a rest and a clean shot, I would not mind taking a 75 yd. shot.

Have used kkm barrel and BB 220 cast on 3 Ks whitetail All one shot high behind front shoulders hitting spine and vitals. Ranges where from 17yds/45yds and 62 yds. The two short range dropped on spot spine hit and third at 62 ran 10 to 20 yds and dropped lower hit. Deer hanging carcass where 77/60 @101 all does. No hide/lower legs or guts. Sights where adj target with fiber optic front green. All shots where at standing deer from ground blind. All deer where watched after shot and if second shot would have been required it would have been sent . Deer all doa. Very impressed with 10mm Glock and KKM barrel. No slugs recovered through and through. 75 yds is my max yardage. I use a range finder so I can humanley harvest animals. As a side note I did add a beavertail for it Helped ALOT Good luck MK

A 62 yard shot with open sights is pretty impressive. Did you have a supported position in the blind? I think my older eyes would definitely benefit from a dot sight of some sort. THANKS.

Yes I have a ground blind with a tripod basically a bench rest. Rock solid no movement at all. Turned down 2 other opportunities that day and as it was the last day I made shure everything was as perfect as I could. Took 30 min for deer to get in the "perfect" spot. To date longest shot with handgun I have made. Also had my 15 yr old daughter ranging and spotting for me!!! Do not have any experience with dot sights but kkb barrels and bb ammo are a wonderful combo and very lethal. Good luck Thanks Mk

Mrk103073, I'd like to know if you are using factory sights or aftermarket? I have a Glock 21sf,and have considered a conversion barrel, spring and mag to try it out.

Yes aftermarket targets can't recall brand very $$$. KBB barrel springs and good/target sights only way to go Thanks MK

Larry vickers did a great review on the glock 10mm. It will take game down with ease have no fear in that I actully know several hunting guides who guide in grizz country and have started using the 10mm with buffalo bore ammo some of them have changed the slide and barrel to the lonewolf 5 1/2 tac barrel and slide to get that extra velocity others left them stock. If you buy the glock 21 45 you can just get the barrel and slide and you get 2 calibers in 1 not counting the 40,and 357sig conversion you can do with the slide change to 10mm....check the glock forums for more info but the 10mm is a damn fine round with a great history a and great ballistics.

Also as far as I know and I'm a huge glock fan the only glock that had an unsupported breach was the glock 22 40cal... You absolutely can shoot +p ammo in a stock 10mm I've done it for years just don't buy cheap ammo ..... Buffalo bore is 1 of the best 10mm ammo suppliers out there if not the best. Do some searching and you'll see for your self. Best of luck.
