my mate wants to get a khukuri but he doesnt know what type is best for hunting needs a good sturdy strong khukuri used for chopping and stabbing, animals include rabbits, kangaroos all variety of animals in the northern territory of australia maybe even a crocodile
please help, would prefer himalayan imports

Well, a Falcata or Ultimate Fighter (the one with both sides sharpened, I think the UF) would probably be best for stabbing, although you can ram even an Ang Khola through just about anything (trust me).

For more reach, but maintaining speed, a sirupate or Kobra would work well.

Hi I'm in Australia and I think your mate could not really go past an Ang Khola from HI for hunting. I'm not sure exactly as to whether your mate intends to use it for hunting ie using it to hunt with, but as a general purpose tough as knife the AK has got it covered.

For hunting and chopping and stabbing (kangaroos etc) I would suggest the cheaper model of pigsticker type knife with the long blade and pointy end :D .

I prefer to use a rifle for the roo's and vermin like bunnies etc ;)

Don't overlook something along the lines of a 22" Chitlangi. Great as a heavy brush machete and the tip is angled just right for stabbing. Kind of a cross between an AK and a short sword. At about two pounds it's a good cross between strength and speed.

and here a couple 22" Chitlangis by Sher with a Bhutan Sword.

Perhaps Lycosa is pres of People for the Ethical Treatment of Shadows.

Shadowhunting, do you envision the khuk as the main weapon or to administer a coup de gras?

I'd tend to lean toward recommending (not from personal experience though) a Sirupati or Gelbu Special, though the Chitlangis would also work. These models have pointier tips and you can get them in 20-21" lengths without them being overly heavy.

australian customs prevents any thing with a double edge or a top edge capable of being sharpened being imported into the country .. but i just recently got my self a 15' ang khola might be a little large for the bunnies tho!!

Uncle Bill used too on occasion post a pic of a rather large alligator one of the Florida Fish and Game Rangers killed in a Wendy's or similar hamburger places parking lot with an 18" WW II if I'm not mistaken, may have been the standard sized WW II model though.
I'm reasonably sure the post remains even if the pic doesn't; it seems the old pics get set aside with a new one or otherwise gets wiped over time....

Perhaps Yangdu may still have it and post it up here when she sees this thread. ;) :D

Yeah, Crocs are a protected species over here in Australia, so the use of either a gelbu special or AK or any other forms of hunting cop a heavy fine and perhaps a stay at 'her majesty's pleasure'. Either way, unless the croc is climbing into your car or wakes you up in the middle of the night cos you did not camp far enough away from the water (which can be a considerable distance to be safe), you better not hurt him unless you have an appropriate license to harvest or are an Aboriginal/Aboriginal descent.

Come to think of it nearly every native creature (dingo's excepted) in Australia is protected under law... unless you have a roo shooters license or the like you cannot harvest unless you are of Aboriginal descent.

I'm sure shadowhunting must mean a general hunting knife although from his post it does look like his mate means to hunt with a Khukuri ie chase em down and chop and stab etc LOL

Some of the 1/2" khuks- which take, frankly, a lot of strength to swing- would surely be the one to whack a dangerous animal with, IMHO. Go for broke!

A secondary danger would be it contacting your leg, after it goes through the critter. :o

I thought 24 3/4 '' Katar and 18'' Chiruwa Ang Khola are helpful hunting Knife and Sword. If you are interested in either blade email me and I will give you my best deal. Thank you, Shadowhunting

Yep, a HI Katar would punch a hole through just about anything. Maybe overkill for the rabbits though,;)
