Dang the luck! I got my vaca cut short yesterday to evacuate for Hurricane Irma's arrival. I think I'm in a good spot now. To try to turn this terrible storm into something positive, I'd like to see some knives with handles or blades that remind you of a hurricane.

Here's a cool one I found om the interweb. The blue and white in the handle reminds me of the satellite images we keep seeing on TV.

Where did you decide to go? North Carolina? The way NOAA keeps changing the path, I've no idea where in Southern most Florida is best.
Key West was supposed to get a direct hit.
Now NOAA is saying 2 to 4 inches of rain, with under tropical storm force winds for Key West.
My family in Homestead has gone from a direct hit to the fringes on the hurricane on the left of the eye, to the fringes of the hurricane on the right (strong side) of the eye, and are now back to a direct hit.
At least they were able to evac "Flood Zone B", where they live, to somewhat higher ground. :) (they are going to ride it out at a friend's house, in "The Redlands")
I have no idea what the city/county/state/ feds are going to do with the 60,000 refugees living under canvas, that Obama brought into that flood zone. There are only so many hurricane shelters in the area, and they get filled up fast, even before the refugees were brought in. Heck, the Keys are already evacuated. For the most part, those folk all go to the shelters on the mainland.
It is going to be a royal cluster screw.
:(

EDIT:
Figures. NOAA has Irma giving the middle Keys a direct hit now.
They just can't seem to make up their mind.
Maybe they'll figure it out a week or so after the storm ...

I'm in North Florida. Still going to have some bad weather but I'm not in an evacuation area now. So, that's good. I'm grateful and my vaca getting cut short is not that big of a deal in comparison to everything that's going on here. Hopefully the storm will fade out into the ocean. I'm sure there are a bunch of factors set in the models they use. So as a factor changes, so does the direction and speed.

Happy to know you're safe, Irma has been devastating in St Barthélémy and St Martin (at least 12 passed away), in the last some appalling behaviours led to 300 being arrested while looting abandoned houses and shops.
The small neighbour isle of Barbuda has been destroyed at 90% (200mph gale winds) and being independant will not benefit of the same background for the help. Their only income is from tourism.

I gave this blue lagoon to my daughter as a solace when she lost her kitten.

Always reminded me of a bird's eye view of a storm hitting the coast
