My family got through the hurricane Charley fine with pre-planning. The knife that was used constantly over the weekend was a automatic (one-hand opening) and half-serrated blade ( the best for branches, wire, rope, canvas, etc.). People are always discussing what type of knife is better for certain circumstances, I have found out by practice.

Glad you made it through alright, my favorite FEMA(emergency) knife is a Spec Plus Square nose SP8-95 Survival machete It's a chopper, ax, prybar, and so much more, this is backed up by a EK Combat Bowie, my Leatherman Supertool, and whatever EDC pocket knives that are on me at the time.
