I have managed to find good, reasonably priced sources for single bit handles in Canada (Home Hardware has a good online catalogue and will deliver to your closest location). Double bit handles, on the other hand, are proving more elusive and very expensive. Just ordered 2 - 30" DB handles: $23.40 for the hand picked, unvarnished handles. $43.00 for shipping. After converting that to Canadian currency, that's about $88.00 for 2 handles. Ouch!

On the other hand, when the last double bit I worked on got into an argument with my leg, the doctor and the stitches were free. It's still a reading hobby. Fly fishing, golf and hunting are still way more expensive.

Your two handle order might arrive in a box that could actually hold more handles given its dimensions. I ordered from them and the box could have held 4-6 more. That was domestic for me - it is hard to outrun current exchange rates.

Ordering more handles up to the size of a minimum standard dimension box might be a better value.

If that is the case then two questions:

1. Is there a difference in shipping cost in regards to the weight of the same sized box?

If there isn't then fill it.

2. Could USPS or a like service provide that same or comparable rate to someone walking in to the post office?

Sometimes companies who ship a lot of products get reduced actual rates compare to the average occasional consumer.

What would be a less expensive option?

There are probably guys here that have handles sitting around ranging from "sound" to really nice.

I mean, Some guys here burn the things as a regular fuel source
