After some work with the file, stone and sandpapers - for the money 18$ here in Bulgaria - pretty good hatchet - probably made by Hult Bruks for Husqvarna...

Waiting for the weekend for some field testing...

Good looking hatchet. It definitely needed the edge work. Looks great now.

It's too bad they use those round wedges. I don't like how they split the handle. And that's a great handle but the head should have been set a little lower. I think the lugs stopped it before it could get down where it should be. It's like hanging a Jersey - you need to spend a little time with the rasp.

PS - Love the music!

Sheath looks great too, that's a great price considering what Gransfors and wetterlings are going for these days, I paid 120 bucks or so for my wildlife hatchet.

This looks like a great little axe. I haven't been able to find these for sale in the U.S. The Husqvarna Hatchet is available but not the camping axe. Anyone know who carries them in the U.S.?

Thats a nice one. I would be curious to see how it performs.
And yes, they need to stop using those round wedges, infact manufacturers should stop using metal wedges altogether and leave that to be decided by the buyer.

The concept of a radially expanding wedge is an excellent one and can be sort of replicated with wood via wedging in both directions (making an 'X', which is what I do now and then), but you are correct in that metal wedges should only ever be a last resort or emergency measure rather than a production item.
