Hi everybody, I've been lurking over here and learning quite a bit but this is my first thread. After reading some reviews and comments, I decided to give the Husky a try. Thought it would be a nice size for limbs and to use in paddle camp.
Fresh out of the box.
Overall not too bad. This one is the Hultafors manufactured model and they did a good job. Fit up was nice and although not quite a GB not too shabby. It came with no finish on the handle (which is fine with me) and a couple of rough spots that needed sanding. Some grind / tooling marks were evident on the head. It was well mounted and the grain was comparable to Wetterlings and GB.
I sanded the handle and gave it a few coats of a 50/50 mix of BLO and mineral spirits. Soaks in well and gives it a nice feeling satin finish. Cleaned up the grind a bit and sharpened it up.
I hot waxed the mask and added a keeper. Probably didn't need one but I don't want it slipping off.
Seems balanced well and it's a handy length. It's thin profile should work well for light felling and limbing but I'll have to see how it will do splitting. Hopefully will get a chance to get it out in the woods tomorrow for a workout. Well worth the 65 bucks I think.
