i got a husqvarna hatchet recently but it came with a blade cover(and its abit crappy actualy-it comes off very easily.)
i guess its good enough to protect the edge but i wanted to be able to carry it easily on my belt so i made a new sheath.
its cow hide,it has a welt on the seem(where the edge is)and it can be caried both low and high.(the belt loop is removable)
i also treated the leather with a linseed oil and beeswax paste i make for my knife sheaths.
it came out ok i guess,id love to hear your thoughts on it and perhaps any imporevements i can make on the next one;)
the first one is the cover it came with, the rest are with the one i made...

From what I can see it came out more than ok. Stitching and hardware look great. I like the color of the linseed oil and beeswax treatment. Should survive a few generations.

You made your own personal sheath as the original did not fit your needs for carrying. I'd say use it and let that be your guide for making "improvements" on the next one.

hahaha!thanks alot for your reply:)yeah I guess trying it outdoors will be the ultimate guide to improvements, but It would be nice to hear ideas since ppl do a lot of things differently.I'm currently working on a bladecover for the axe on my other thread but I'll post pics there when that's done.
