It was a beautiful day today and I was hoping that the fish would be biting. After several hours on the lake and in the spillway I thought today would be a bust, but ended up with one bass. No scale or ruler, but it was a great size, especially that late in the day. Hutch seemed to enjoy his day on the boat. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment:

Anticipation

Finally on the way to the water

So, you actually caught two fish. :) Hutch looks totally enthused about the trip. Nice bass, did you keep it? What part of GA are you in?

Actually in Louisiana right now working near Baton Rouge. These pictures are from farther south on Lake Ponchartrain and the Bonnet Carre Spillway. Completely different fishing down here than I am used to. The water down here is much bigger, faster moving and the fish are just different. I am used to small ponds with still water and lots of weeds. This is the kind of fishing I grew up with:

Occasionally I did catch a fish or two back home too.

Nice Brit looks like you have a great fishing partner--he may want to get into the bird thing too--quail etc. Dad has a Brit that perks up if you set the hook or even reel in faster --they also are tops as a family dog, he whipped up on a dog that was much larger then he was recently-- the big dog got to close to the families stringer of trout--he takes his fish seriously. Thanks for sharing--Steve

His official bird training starts tomorrow actually. I have lightly introduced him to some bird things like feathers, guns and retrieving already, but he is just now 6 months old and has his adult teeth in. I have not trained a bird dog before, but got lots of advice from a guy who trains retrievers down here so I will see what I can do with Hutch. First thing he told me was wait til his big teeth come in to really get serious with the training. A little every day and he should do well. He seems to retrieve naturally and is not afraid of gun shots. Still a hyper puppy who thinks chasing his tail is the answer to all of life's questions.

Adolescence can be trying the most expensive thing Carlie has done to date was to eat a peach pit and all and have it plug up his intestines--surgery was a little over $2,000.00. Their nose is the most incredible asset--nothing goes undetected Charles is nuts about game birds but if they are not available anything will do tweedy birds, even flying grasshoppers will lock him into a point. Just happy that when it is time to get serious and hunt that he puts these past time hobby's aside...Steve
