See http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=625648 if you're not sure what I'm talking about.

I attempted this tonight and basically nothing happened. The clip would turn totally black with soot....that would just wipe off. Maybe the problem is that I used a candle instead of wasting a ton of lighter fluid? But I could hold the clip over the flame for minutes and the soot would still just wipe off. Parts of the clip are very slightly darker, but nothing near black.

Any suggestions?

Hi Dekz, Try using a "Bic Lighter", that's what hwpaintballer and I used. I know riffraff used a propane torch and his clip didn't get as dark either. I think it has something to do with the butane???

When I used the "BIC" ...I got the clip hot, but NOT red-hot. Then I'd let it cool down, wipe it, and repeat. A few times I also heated the clip and dipped it in water. When I did that, it appeared to get darker a bit faster. I repeated this several times until I was satisfied with the color. Hope this helps some ;). Give it a try and let us know it turns out. Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Ya I thought that maybe the candle wasn't as hot as a lighter, but my lighter was almost dead, I'll pick some up today.

I did not let it cool before I wiped the soot off, how important is that?

I also tried dipping it in water, with no effect.

Keep updating us with your results, and pics if possible. I have not gotten this to work yet.

i did it the first time with a lighter and it worked pretty good, the second time i lit a candle and it worked the same as with a lighter, you just gotta keep heating it and wiping it off and it will gradually get darker.
