Hybrid Sheaths.... My favourite kind!

For me, Hybrid sheaths are hands down my favourite. You get the best of both worlds - The reassuring audible 'CLICK' of a snug fitting kydex liner... and the 'Better with age' ascetics and patina of leather. Its a shame that the hybrid sheath is not embraced by more makers... I only know of a few that offer them.

See below -

Kydex by - Dave Brown and Martin Swinkles.
Leather by - Joshua Leather and Martin Swinkles.

I'd love to see any other hybrids out there!!!

Enjoy,

Lawrie.

Very nice Lawrie mate!!! LOVE that NMFBM!!! Those sheaths look really nice. I gotta have another Downunder Razorbacks day, and you can bring them and I can drool over them and fondle them and keep them. :)

I may have to try my hand at this..... Looking good sir.

One question: What is wrapped around your SAR 8 HANDLE?

Cheers Robbo,

I'm keen!

Lawrie

Awesome stuff Lawrie!!

I prefer Kydex so i can make my own fusion with some 550 cord. I make my own simple belt loop/dangler and leg strap using dead knots and wrap the rest of the sheath up with 550 cord

Pics or it didn't happen Luke!

hehehe

Always wanted a hybrid sheath, but never found people who were either willing to do it, or didn't have a waiting list a zillion miles long and I'm not patient enough for that, lol. Looking good, though!

Cool sheaths, have to look into those. I one that is opposite, leather inside and kydex outside,, :D

Very nice sheaths you have there :)

Here is one we built for an AK47

Beautiful and functional, I like them OP. I've always liked the use of posts vs snaps as well, just looks clean.

Al, are you doing those by special request?? Looks great.

Luke, heck man that's pretty slick. If I'd thought of that I might never have let her go :D

hahaha cheers, she's mine now!! Was bored the other night and was sick of the knife digging into my ribs when using the Tek Lok so i came up with this 550 paracord method. Very simple to do and only took about 20 mins to work all the details out and get it to ride perfectly on my leg

Good stuff Lawrie! I roll my own kydex and leather but haven't found a good way to make the two bond very well together.

Thanks for sharing bro!

Glad you're enjoying that one, definitely a blade to be used and appreciated. Cheers man.

I think leather inside makes a lot more sense, although even leather can be very "scratchy" all over if the treatment of the leather, and the shape of the blade, lends itself to that: That is, the Full height Flat Grind being the worst... Sabre grinds tend to confine the scratches to the "bearing" area.

Frankly, kydex sheaths, and the absolutely terrible scratching they do to any blade, plus their cheap plastic sounds, are one of those things about today's knife world that I'll never understand...

There used to be Eagle Industries nylon sheaths with rigid rolled-up rubber inserts, "hairy" on the inside... Not generic: Specific blade designs... That always seemed to me far more sensible...: 30 years later, many of the knives blessed with an Eagle sheath can still be sold as new...

Had a go at hybrid ITWB sheath for 'lil Smokey. Wanted to make it less bulky than similar sheaths I've made for bigger knives, so I went with thinner leather & kydex.

Next will be one for BG AK47
