Hello All:

I was just in Seattle at the Boeing Surplus store and found some hydraulic cylinders for $75 each. Was wondering if they were too big for a forging press or not. One was about 32" total length and 6" diameter, the other 2 were about 36" total length and 5" diameter. I'll tell you what, they weighed a bunch. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, Bob, I got your CD on building a press in the mail a couple of days ago, but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Wanted to say thanks for getting it out so quickly. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I read thru the material. Thanks again.

IG sent me some great plans for a press, and one thing he suggested, go to at least a 5" dia.My guess, those would work good, giving you enough pressure for thicker billets. IG has had a lot of press and press building experience. My press operation experience has been with 450+ ton presses, so I can understand what he is saying.

I deleted this post because I decided I didn't like the info I'd tendered..... I'm just not sur of what I said.... sorry

Thanks guys...I always get the answers I need from you all. Next time I'm in Seattle, think I'll stop by Boeing again and see what I can scrounge up.
