I used muriatic acid, which is basically the same. It came in a plastic jug, so I used a smaller, similar plastic bottle to do the blades in. Make sure you're working in a well-ventilated area because the fumes are very strong, and don't have any tools laying around nearby (or anything metallic) because the fumes will also affect them.
Make sure you clean the blades very well, using acetone, then denatured alcohol, and handle them minimally with latex gloves.
I kept S30V in it for about an hour and a half, checking periodically. CPM-M4 took a nice patina in about 20 minutes. Mild stainless, like a Kershaw Leek's handle, etched in about half an hour. Make sure you check often, and if it's a folder blade you are doing, mask off the inside of the pivot hole, washer contact area, lockface, and thumbstud hole with a sharpie.
