Hydrolic press plans?

Anybody got plans for a press outthere? I'm a pretty good welder/fitter, but don't have a clue on building a press. What motor, pump, ect?:eek:

You should so a full tutorial on building a press step by step. THat whould be awsome.
 
That first link is pretty interesting. Looks like the sellor is copying plans out of a 60's-vintage Popular Mechanics.
 
Your site is pretty darn cool, IG! I looked at the plans on eBay - would a 15 ton press be enough to forge with? Is there a different set of plans available that anyone knows of?

Bob Warner sells plans, and Don Fogg sells Dr. Batsons plans.

Center Cross knife works uses a converted log splitter, he claims the horizontal press is handier for him to use.

Presses are pretty simple machines once you get the parts together.

15 ton press? depends on how big a billet you want to make.

Couple guys on the old CKD made a press with a 15 ton bottle jack , a couple lengths of allthread and made billets for pocketknive blades.

Oh yeah, wasn't there a press building Saga a couple months ago right here on Shop Talk???

I wouldn't go below 20 tons. IMHO
