The progression of BKT handle materials ... Estaloc then Grivory then Zytel and now Hylon on the BK21.

WTH is Hylon?

well google search says its a plastic resin with glass fibers......just another trade name for a "plastic"

Actually, FRP: Fiber Reinforced Plastic. Pretty durable stuff. (Spyderco uses FRN - Fiber Reinforced Nylon - on quite a few of their knives) I'm sure that when I get one in my hands, I won't GAF......because I'll have a BK21 in my hand.

It's probably the trade name the current manufacturer uses for the stuff that kabar specs.

Well, that clears that up.

Actually.....wait. Ok. Yeah. Haha

OK, to simplify. Hylon is just one of many out of polyamide 66 family. Polyamide is better known as nylon.
Variation of Nylon 6 and 66 are sold under many brand names. They all differ slightly to avoid patent issues.

Zytel is variation of nylon 6 by DuPont. Hylon is variation of nylon 6 (and 66) by Ravago.

DuPont's Zytel is probably more expensive than lesser known Hylon by Ravago.

Pretty much same stuff though.

soooooo......... grivory by any other name is still a good handle material? :D
