I can't make up my mind. I like the look of the Trance DP but would prefer G10scales of the Hyper. For those of you that have both knives which knife give you a better grip/natural hold? I know alot of you will say buy both:D unfortunately due to a lay off:mad: and I'm also going to get a Wharcom, I can't swing the 3rd knife. So anyways if you could only have one what would it be the Trance or Hyper????

BTW I'm getting my first CLB design...a Spyd. Lava... I can't wait to follow it up with the Wharcom and Trance/Hyper.

I'm gonna vote Trance (esp. the drop point is my fave)....mostly b/c it's "essential" for a budding Boker CLB collection ;) I prefer it's ergos a little more than the Hyper....but the Hyper is extremely "grippy" in the hand too... It might come down to a decision of your preferred bladeshape  good luck deciding :)

Hmmm...one vote for each...not much help guys.........lol.

DaveReb---OK---If I to pick one, it would be the Trance. I like the blade shape better. Now go get one.

I never got a Hyper because the Trance is so good! With a killer design like the Trance it's hard to imagine anything significantly better.

Here is a shot of my PE Hyper.

The Trance has a traditional modified tanto or droppoint blade. The Hyper has a light recurve blade. Trance come in AUS 8 bladesteel. Hyper comes in 440C. Hyper has real G10 handlescale. Trance has zytel or frn type. (Im not sure ) Bladelenght approx the same. Trance has a flipper. Hyper not. Hyper has Ti coating.

I think the high flatgrind combinated with a 2.5mm thick blade makes the Hyper a heck of a slicer. Have to get me a droppoint Trance to compare.

Aloha and thanks DaveReb,

Is there any way possible to handle the Trance and Hyper before buying one?

God bless and mahalo!

I'm partial to the Trance. And I like that the flipper acts as a kind of finger guard as well.

I guess it s worth asking what kind of sharpenning equipment do you have before buying any of them.... I am just telling by the pictures but the somewhat recurved blade of the Hyper could be impossible to sharpen propertly with just bench stones. I mean the "inside" of the curve, right by the handles. I own a Trance (I have it here in my hand while typing) and the blade shape is much simpler... and sharpens easily.

If you own a Sharpmaker or any other system that allows you to sharpen serrations (rods or whatever) then it comes just to which blade shape you like the most.

PD: When I got my Trance the Hyper was not available... so I didn't have to chose between them.

Well, I just recently picked up a Trance & really like it. However, for the price difference ($10 or less), I'd probably get the Hyper for 2 reasons.

1. The Hyper has better materials. While not a ton better, 440C is better than AUS 8 "across the board" & G-10 just plain feels better (IMHO, of course).
2. Low rider clip on the Hyper. Again, not a huge deal, since the Trance's clip (Tip up or down) allows for a fairly low carry.

However, having noted all that, I'll stick with my Trance, because well...I have it. They're both great.

But since you're back to work, DaveReb, maybe you can get both. :D

I recently bought a Drop point Trance and now (cue the music) "I'm a believer"!

This really is a great design.
I've used similar knives like the Calypso Jr., the Caly 3, the Salsa, the Blur....but the Trance is hands-down the best in design so far.

Chad, my hat is off to you, sir.....well done indeed!
And a thanks to Boker as well.
:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

And I just know that I'll be getting the Hyper soon as well.

Now when are we going to see a titanium Trance with S30V or ATS-34 steel? :)

Thanks,
Allen.

I don't care about titanium handles... I think the Trance is very light just as it is. It will only rise up the price... But I agree with you that it would be sweet to have this knife with a better steel... with better edge holding ability. Don't take me wrong, AUS8 is a great steel and sharpens quickly.

I chose the Trance PE as well. I like the blade shape a bit better and the flipper.
