I am just getting over being a bit sick. Fever, etc. A couple of nights ago I woke up totally chilled. I was shivering, my teeth chattering, etc. I piled more blankets on top of myself, warmed the room, etc. but could not stop shivering. Finally I took some hand warmer packets (the kind you put in your gloves) and put a few around my torso.
It took a few hours to raise my core temperature to normal. It really showed how once the core temperature drops it is not easy to raise it again. Being sick may have added some other dynamics that are not normally in an outdoor hypothermic condition which may have limited the warming process as well.
Nevertheless it was an interesting learning experience.
