Okay, hypothetical question:

Let's say, for example, that somebody came up with a really nifty design for a blade that might or might not quite qualify as a Khukuri, but held many of the same design elements. And let's say that this person looked at the design, looked at the pathetic little forge sitting in their back yard, took stock of their smithing skills, and said "Yeah, right."

What would be involved in getting some feedback on the design, and/or possibly even a prototype?

You could probably post a bunch of pictures here. I'm sure most people have all sorts of knowledge and wisdom about such things.

Did ya get yer BAS blem?

Well, I'll try to get my sketch scanned in and cleaned up tomorrow, or even try my hand at drawing it in a paint program.

And no, the BAS blem hasn't arrived just yet. I'm gonna have to spend my weekend fighting caffiene-like jitters, but I expect it should arrive on Monday. Yes, monday. *jitter*

"5 more minutes and that blem would have been mine"

Hah, I was lucky. I just happened to think to myself, "I wonder if Uncle Bill happens to have any more blems yet," and decided to look in and see. I honestly wasn't expecting to buy anything for some weeks or months yet.

Anyways, I can't get the design right in a paint program. For that matter, I've been completely unable to duplicate the lines on my first sketch by any means. It's pure magic, I swear it. I'm definitely going to post this, just as soon as I can get a digitized replica...

Rust,

I hate to say it, you'll never get over the jitters... they'll just grow with each khuk you get:eek:. ITS HIKV :D:D:D

Try making a wooden model of your design... that seems to be the best way to see if your design would translate well into steel...

I myself have the same idea that you have.. to learn how to forge my own blades. I think I'm going to concentrate on wooden models for now though. It is a nice winter pastime :)

HIKV? Well... I considered that, but then I though about it a bit. I'm also at least mildly rabid about just about any quality knife. So... a derivative?

HQBV - High Quality Blade Virus?

On second thought, no. I'm just mildly psychotic, and have an attraction to shiny objects.

Well Rust sorry to say theres no avoiding HIKV. ;) Though I have found gaining other viruses say for Moro Swords or Philippine Bolos helps subdue the HIKV slightly :D I really just let the viruses fight eachother for dominancy :p
