would you buy a tenacious in a higher end steel, say s30v or even 3v?
I think I definitely would, the tenacious fits me perfectly in every aspect, just wish it had better steel!

I would love to see it in anything better than 8cr13 but zdp189 would be badass on that entire line

Yep. I only have one Spyderco left on my wish list right now - a PM2 black/black. That tenacious would fly to the top...

Give me a resilience with blue linen micarta and CPM-M4 and I'd be a happy shopper

...as would this one ^^^ :D

Blue linen micarta and a top steel - awesome.

I have a blue Tenacious and I like it, but I can't respect it as much as my PM2 because I know that the steel is inferior. I would like to have the Tenacious in better steel, and it seems that China could make better steel for not much more money.

There was talk of an upgraded Tenacious in a better steel. It was supposedly in the works... Haven't heard anything about it in almost a year now. Maybe it's been shelved. It was gonna be in CTS BD1 I believe.

That's not much of an upgrade...

The tenacious is made in china, so importing a american PM steel and expecting a low price point would defeat the purpose of having a economy line, NO?

I agree, but that was the steel that was in discussion to bring to China. If I recall reading, they need to be trained to use the new steel properly. I'd prefer something else along the lines of S30v, I hate how my Tenacious' edge dies on me in the middle of the day when I take it out for some work. That's why it's mostly in the drawer now, at least it's laser beam sharp while it's there though :)

An idea, it's a good enough design to bring stateside if that's what it takes to get a higher end steel. It will sell.

Yeah, but the idea gained momentum because the Tenacious is such a winning design and people requested for one with a better steel again and again. "I'd pay more if it had so and so steel!" It's a familiar design that everyone likes. It may be worth it for a bump up in steel in this case.

yea but why not keep the economy line and have an american version of the tenacious made here with a better steel for the more serious knife people, and everyone's happy:D

they do sprint runs all the time so its not impossible to have a sprint with something like M4/zdp/S90v with micarta scales

I completely agree - I love the blade shape and blade:handle ratio on the Tennacious and with an improved steel (& deep carry pocket-clip?) it'd be a sure-fire winner for me...

I'd just buy a different ten/per if it's really different from other folders by using a totally different steel, like a carbon steel for instance. It's like the caly 3.5 and 3 with SB. These two are just unique knives that no other maker is putting out anything similar to.

Just putting another middle of the road stainless steel will not interest me one whit. I might as well get another regular para rather than a tenacious in S30V.

I do think that a tenacious in a carbon steel like 52100 or even 5160 will make it an entirely different animal from any other models that is in production at present. These kinds of carbon steels aren't too pricey too and heat treat will also probably be less expensive than the heat treat on a low tier stainless. It might also keep the price down while introducing another unique knife to us crazy knife nuts.

I would not.
There are plenty non economy line Spyderco's that I like that have great steel.

I don't buy anything from China that I don't have to.
Make one here or a nation more neutral towards the USA out of premium steel ill be all over it.
I know some don't care so we will agree to disagree
