Hey guys, I’m just getting into knife making because knives have always fascinated me, but the problem is, I will be living in an apartment soon. I’m pretty confident I won’t be able to use an angle grinder or any similar power tools in said apartment. I’m hoping someone can advise me of a way I can continue making knives if I’m living in an apartment. Thanks, any advise is appreciated

Apartments are not conducive to knife making. That's just pretty much it. You can try and find a place that you can rent, but it will probably be expensive. The other option is to see if there are any knifemakers in your area and see if you can work something out with them. Maybe they need an apprentice.

I lived in an appartement and it came with storage room.
I set up shop in there at the time.
Do you have an extra befroom you can use?

If you have a balcony you can try fitting handles to premade knife blades. This way you can go a long way with just hand tools. Making handles for premade knives is a great way to get into the hobby imo.

Start by filling in your profile. Without knowing anything about where you live and what you do it is really hard to advise you.
There may be a maker in your town who would share shop time, or a guild that has a permanent shop for its members. Renting a garage or mini-warehouse is also a possibility once you get a little farther down the road..

When I lived in a city and was new to knife making, I went to a community shop. A "hacker space" they called it, but it had a legit shop that anyone could use.

Though, that probably limits you to stock removal (What most of us do, anyways), since I doubt you could forge in a community shop!

Do you know how to make a file jig? I didn't have the right stuff to make knives and I just waited until I could afford it. I really wish I would have known how to use a jig. It's slow but you still learn how to make knives. If you have a nice design and pay for expenses I might be willing to do the rough grinding and heat treatment. If that's something you want to talk about you can text me at 360.305.6225 . I also might have some old screwups that could be fixed that I could just send you and others might as well. Good luck.
