I’ve got this old knife here. It’s a decent size and not very sharp, but it seems to be fixable. The end is sorta pointy and the handle is alright. It’s covered in scratches and some kind of tarnish or goop or something. How much is this thing worth?

The best answer you can get is that its worth taking the goop off, sharpening if it'll hold an edge, and at the very least leaving it on your work bench.
Often valuable knives don't end up in such condition ( i suppose it can happen ) so it's most likely not valuable but it could still be a good usable knife.
The experts will need pictures to be able to tell you if it has some value ( can't tell you what the value actually is ) and if you should leave it as is or try to clean it up a little and put it to use.
 
OP, read the rules in the stickies at the top of every subforum.
You (as in "everyone") need gold or higher membership to ask/talk about value.
