Same USM head. 3 slightly different angles that I hope show how much thinner one eye wall is than the other. Does anyone know why? I’m assuming a manufacturing defect since the head is only around 50 years old.
One note in case it’s related/important: When I hung it, I only had to remove material from the side of the tongue on the thin side of the wall. Literally 100% of what was shaved off for fit from one side. Every time I reset the head as it slid down the tongue, the curl line was on the same side.
Needless to say, the head now sits in an extreme offset combining the thin side of the eye wall with the thin side of the tongue.
I think what I’ve done is make a pretty gift for someone who doesn’t chop much wood, but I wonder if I’m just misunderstanding what this head was made for. Is it possible this offset is deliberate for some reason?
