So with 5 physio appointments under my belt I got the OK to start making knives again from my therapist as long as I stopped if I had any pain.
With that I revisited a little EDC design I had come up with and did a home HT on before my surgery. I really liked the original and found it to be a knife that I kept using despite how ugly it looked. It was ugly because I didn't really expect my HT to take so I didn't put much effort into the finish of it, never even put a handle on it or made a sheath for it
Then just after or just before my surgery johnymac made one almost identical to the one I had done, but his finish was impeccable:thumbup: That inspired me to make another one and give it the attention it deserved. I spent yesterday standing in the cold on my little 30X1 grinder and portable band saw and this is what I have so far.
I even gave my hand a go at some file work
not the best but it is my first try at it. I think maybe 1/8" steel was a bad choice for my first try at file work and that it would have turned out better with something like 3/16" or better. Still I showed it to a friend and it is sold already for my full asking price.
When my elbow started to bother me I stopped sanding, its only at 150 grit right now and i want to get to 400 or 600 before HT, I decided to give the original knife a nice home to honor its inspiration and abusive service
so I also made my first kydex sheath.
As much as I like making leather sheaths I really like the way the kydex sheath turned out and the new knife is getting a kydex sheath too, along with some natural linen micarta scales, with black liners and epoxy to fill in the file work. As soon as the pre HT sanding is done on the little knife that gives me 3 to send out for HT, giving me something to do while the wind and snow are blowing.
Just thought I would share what I was up to.
