I am buying a 10V PM2 and it was the person's EDC, cutting rope, cardboard, etc. Is there anyone who offers slight refurbishment services?

I am about to invest in a sharpening system and some stones to learn freehand simultaneously, but I need to practice on other knives to get the process down before I try on a knife like my ultimate PM2, the 10V version. Do we have any local denizens of BF that will do something like putting a nice, quality edge on it, that will do me while I learn to get the hang of the sharpening system that I go with?
I do not wanna use the whack sharpener at Home Depot or whatever, I want a real edge.
Thanks for any input. 😉

I can probably help you out. I've been rocking the 10V PM2 for a while too. See my website for contact info and email me.

So, I think I have someone for this particular PM2, BUT I do need some more minor help on other knives, in a similar way, in terms of nice edges and some small re-profiles, while I learn to do it myself on knives that are not my most valuable babies.

if you read my initial post,(oof sorry thought we were on the Spyderco forum nvm) you see how I am in sort of a state of: I have a lot of really nice knives (Mainly my Spyderco and Cold Steel) but I am just starting off sharpening. I want to get fine edges on these good knives I use all the time, while I learn to sharpen on things like Opinel, Ontario, carbon steel, something in BD1N, etc. And then again, there is the "PM2 reprofile" thing, everyone says the PM2 is great reprofiled to 17 degrees as opposed to the 20 they come at.

I just looked at your website. You will do repairs and sharpening for under $30? And for 6+ inch knives, too? Yeah, man, I think I'll be using your services too. Do you have an email where we can talk?

I am about to invest in a sharpening system..

Have a look at the Hapstone R2 sharpening system and Venev Orion or Venev Centaur sharpening stones. It will eat 10V for breakfast and give you a superb edge on any knife steel.

With your collection of nice knives, you need a system to care for their edges yourself. I would highly recommend a Hapstone R2.

Have a browse on www.gritomatic.com for a huge selection of stones and systems.

Thank you! I am trying to find the perfect system, money is no object as long as it isn't much more than 400 or so, that will be able to do everything from my carbon steel pocketknives to S35, 45, S110, ZDP.... as well as bigger blades :)
Glad to hear of what you mentioned.

Benjamin at Baryonyx (hope I’m spelling that right) can fix you up with some stones, too. Recently got a coarse Bull Thistle from him and like it. He’s on the axe forum a lot as 42blades.

With your budget and requirements, the Hapstone R2 Standard would be unbeatable, paired up with a Hapstone fine tuning adapter, digital angle cube and 6 inch Venev stones would likely be perfect.

The Hapstone R2 Lite is also a great option, and pairs up even better with your budget. If you look at a Hapstone R2 Lite, including Venev Centaur (or even Venev Ursa) stones, it falls perfectly in your range.

777, those are cool but I got the impression he was trying to learn freehanding. Maybe I read it wrong.

Thank you so much! I will do my research on this system, and would love to get that as an easy sharpening method! I want to find a system that can handle everything from super-steel pocket knives as well as strong 1095 and 3V fixed blades. I understand I may have to get a couple to do this. I really appreciate the rec, though, this is quite valuable advice to me.

I am trying to learn both 😀 I want to learn freehand at the same time as using guided systems - that way I can learn freehand technique on less expensive knives, and keep my reallyood knives sharp and usable without ruining them learning on the stone. So, I wanna pay someone to give me super-fine edges on my "super good" knives while I learn on Opinel, Higo, RAT, etc.
I wanna learn both!

I love Baronyx! That is a finely curated selection with a lot of the best knives, good prices, and seems like a really good dude!! I will probably be buying some stones from there, but unfortunatey do not think he does custom work.

He offers tuneups on the knives he sells, I don’t see why he couldn’t tune your knives like that. The question would be the timing, sometimes he’s really busy running the business and you’d probably get in line behind his sale clients.

I can’t speak for him, of course, but he’s certainly capable of doing it - can’t hurt to ask. And if you’re buying stones from him too, that can’t hurt your chances.

PS if it were me, I couldn’t learn a new guided system and freehanding simultaneously. I’d have to focus on one or the other, or I’d be wrecking knives. When I got one dialed I could focus on the other.

Didn’t matter in my history, I was freehanding for decades before I ever got a guided system or any power abrasives.

The Venev 6 inch dual sided stones (Like the Venev Centaur set) can be used both on guided systems, and freehand.

The Venev stones do well on any and every type of steel, from basic steels all the way to high vanadium carbide steels. They are diamonds inside a bond, so they cut incredibly well while at the same time not being harsh on a blade.

Michael Christy has some good videos on YouTube for reference where he uses various stones of this size in his hand while sharpening.

This could be a good option and value for you to try your hand at both methods.

Heard a lot about the Venev stones, did not know they could be used in guided systems too, thanks for the heads-up! I am definitely going to be needing a diamond stone as I intend to sharpen everything from large 1075 fixed blades, to ZDP-189, REX 45, S45VN.
