If you really don't know what to buy, I'd wait a bit longer. Go to the store and handle some knives and ask questions. Make a list of the ones you like, and then present any remaining questions you have about them here on Bladeforums. After you've considered all of the information, then go and buy the knife.

If you want a knife with about a 3" blade then I would recommend the Spyderco Delica or Benchmade Mini-Griptilian 555 (because that is the blade style I prefer). For a knife with a larger blade, the Spyderco Endura or Benchmade Griptilian 550.

I am ordering it online, so it is going to be sight unseen. The only place around here that is even remotely decent for knives in Gander Mt. and their selection is limited to say the least, not to mention the extra cash you have to shell out. I already have more knives than I will ever need, (which I am sure is pretty common around here) and I think it is time for another one.

But which one?

Decisions decisions....

I am just not a huge fan of the enduras and delicas for some reason, but the grip and mini-grip are both high on my "knives to get" list.

Although I think that Gander has the delica and endura there, so if I feel like spending an extra $10 or $15 dollars, I coulld have the knife today...

Hmmm.....

That Kershaw ET is pretty interesting too...

Okay then, in that case I'd recommend a Benchmade 551 Griptilian. The regular 440C model goes for about $60 IIRC. Be sure to look at the D2 models at www.cabelas.com, which run $70-80 depending on model. I've been on a Buck 110 kick lately, so while you're at it, if you can live without a clip, look at Cabelas Alaskan Guide 110 with S30V blade for $60.

If you get the S30V native you'll get a better price from a Walmart store than just about anywhere else, including the internet. Maybe you could get it from their website if you can't make it to a store. Call the sporting goods counter before you go to be sure they have them in stock.

Good call. I might have to call Wally world

I'll suggest two of my favorites that have not been mentioned. Victorinox fieldmaster, the perfest sak in my opinion and the Buck woodsman. The make a nice combo.

If you can find a Buck adrenaline-ti. its a sweet little knife. it can come in at just under $75 after tax. (don't know about shipping)

I like the handles and locking mechanism on the Benchmade Griptilians better, but the narrow points on the Spyderco blades can be very useful in some situations. For example, if you have to cut something in a narrow space.

If you are going to purchase online, check www.cabelas.com for their BM Grip and Mini-Grip. They seem to have the exclusive on these in D2 steel. These are amongst my sharpest and most durable blades.

If you haven't bought yet, I recommend you take a good, hard look at the CRKT M16 titanium or the 5-inch bladed Cold Steel Voyager. I hate serrations on just about all knives but Cold Steel. Its serrations bite and cut rather bite and saw. I hate bumpy cuts, but Cold Steel's serrated blades ensure a long edge retention and a smooth cut.

The CRKT has the added benefit of having blade stablizers that rest against the titanium handles. The LAWK safety keeps the blade from slipping and when you consider all that, you'll have a knife that will last the rest of your life and be a beauty. It's kind of like finding a supermodel who can cook!
