I have decided to stop buying knives for a while. (Over six months) I was just browsing a website and impulse bought a Benchmade Onslaught. My rationale was...It will go good with my small Onslaught. I am capping the spending now. The money will go 100% into savings. I have plenty of knives, but could always use more money. Lol.

Or you could buy yourself a nice custom or Sebenza and then tell your family that you have to cut back at Christmas this year. My knife spending goes to nil during the holidays, unless it's for my kids.

Taking a break now and then can be a very good thing.
Particularly when you find yourself buying something for no real good reason.
Or when you've sort of lost that rush that comes when you've made a purchase and now its replaced with almost immediate buyers remorse.

Sit back for awhile and enjoy what you have and wait until you find something that really moves you.

I agree 100%.

well Swamp, if you ever want to trade just to have a new toy to fondle, then trade back...let me know. It can be a kind of support group :D

yep you definitely nailed it. That's how I feel. I will enjoy the onslaught, I handled one a while back, big wide blade, but after this one, I'm sitting it out for a while.

Ok I will, the same for you. Let me know if you want to swap for a while or trade.

Taking a break from anything in general, is good. Especially when you can't exert the self control to not buy something on impulse (justified by a superfluous reason); you've already jumped off the edge. At least you've pulled the cord, good luck navigating your landing and finding your way back.

However, you can never tell when that knife that you never knew you always wanted- pops up, unless you keep checking the new arrivals section of your favorite retailer. Think of it this way...you're keeping the economy going.

I am doing more trades now too. Budget just doesn't allow for new stuff. I am also starting to disassemble some with polish and maybe some mods. Helps ease the steel withdrawal pains. :)

Just when you stop buying all the deals come out ,or do they!!! (as Craig Ferguson would say)

I went about 6 months without buying a knife this year. It was kind of nice, actually, to enjoy the ones I owned instead of getting new ones constantly. I've also started selling off a ton of knives I don't use.

That's the key. Make room for a new knife, and it will come. Buy a superfluous knife, and another one will edge it out all too soon.

Its all about managing money in such a way that you almost always have a knife on the way...... I myself have this down to a science :D

Yeah, me too. It was fun for a while don't get me wrong, but If I were to buy another tool in the next six months it would be a pistol.
