I am going to London: what can I carry?

Hello Dear Friends,

as I always says, it is very long I don't post in Bladeforums: wife, daughter and work are totally time consuming (in this order).

I am just happy to say the most of my work is to give satellite communication means to the Army in mission abroad: just to Italian army just for now, but maybe to other nations' Armies in the futures, who knows?

I am posting here because I am going to go in London as a holiday for a week this summer, and I need to know current and actual knives related laws in Great Britain and in London: I am going to carry just a Victorinox Mountaineer folder, NOT blocking blade, a Lite Swisscard and MAYBE another single bladed-NOT blocking folder, say 7 cm long blade, because peeling apples and slicing food with Victorinox can be hard and then the knife is a mess.

I will go to visit Hide Park, Tower of London, Natural History Museum, some other museums, some pubs, Harrods and the classic tourist's places.

Can you please tell me if I can carry those items with me, what I have to leave something of them at the hotel, your advices in general, etc.?

Thank you very much.

Falcenberg

I sell many knives to the UK. NO LOCKING BLADES. No blades over 3" (76mm). Friction Folders are the most common for everyday carry, and there are many nice ones to choose from. No 'switchblades' or spring assisted opening...

In the UK you can carry a non locking knife that has a blade of less that 3 inches when ever you want. You can carry fixed blades and lock knives if you can justify it by doing an activity like fishing, hunting, camping or for work. The only knives that are illegal to carry at any time are automatics or balisongs. (You can own pretty much any knife you want in a collection).

We traveled around England and Scotland a few years back and I carried a Wenger Traveler the whole time. Never had a problem with anyone in any location. Spent 2 days in London at the British Museum, National Gallery, Tower of London an so one.
Take a SAK. Not only will no one bother you, its darn handy with all those tool options.

Just to let you know. I was at the Natural History museum two weeks ago and they were searching bags for all sorts of things. You can't even bring a SAK in there. Many of the other museums have similar security measures as well.

Everywhere else you should be fine because the knives you mentioned are all legal to carry.

Sure wish I still lived in Italy. One time at Marco Polo airport I accidentally forgot I had a small Fox Trendy in my bag. I put it in the little tray with my watch and coins as I went through the metal detector and security just waived me through. I was looking at them with a confused look and they just looked back at me with a "what, are you going to hijack the plane with a 2" blade?" face and a shrug. If that was at Heathrow I would be in jail.
