I bought this Grip last fall and I didn't use it until yesterday. I decided to give it a work out. I've snap cut brush, sliced plastic, trimmed carpet and it still will shave hair easy. I didn't know B/M did nearly so well with this steel.

Here's a picture from last fall.

Sometimes people labor under the mistaken impression that the latest generation of steel renders the previous one obsolete. There's a reason for the longevity of 154CM (or 440C, etc..): when done properly, they work more than well enough for the average user. My old Benchmade 940 in 154CM cut through many hundreds of boxes as part of one of my jobs. Total times sharpened? 1.

Benchmades 154cm is stellar. I absolutely love it. I really don't care what the charts say, and I muuuch prefer it to s30v. I do like m4 better, but yeah BKC does a great job with their steels. No doubt.

First time I've seen that color combo up close,I love it.
The Benchmade knives in 154cm that i have owned have all been good performers.I've used them for every thing from scraping gaskets off engine blocks, rubber hose, wood,Game, and countless other things and the edges held up.

The first time I ever handled a grip was at a gun show in Fayettville, N.C several years ago. I closed it with one hand and the blade just nicked my middle finger and sliced it pretty good. The Griptillian is one on the best buys in knives today.

honestly Benchmades 154CM is my favorite all time steel overall. I really wish they would use more of it instead of D2.

Benchmade's 154CM is my favorite incarnation of that steel and it really does perform excellently. I see people all the time saying "For Benchmade's price you should get something better than 154CM!" but in all honesty, I have no qualms laying down the price for their blade steel. It just works incredibly well and, maybe it's just me, but it actually seems to hold a shaving edge about as long as Spyderco's S30V (which I also really like).

Its also much harder than the trackpad on laptops :( At least I didn't have to sharpen my mini grip after accidentally stabbing my laptop.

I think people underestimate how badass Benchmade can be when it comes to doing steel right. I'm usually a pretty die hard Spyderco fan but Benchmade is no slouch by any stretch.

I'm also impressed by my Griptilians 154CM. It holds an edge really well, even after I cut a bunch of cardboard yesterday.

my work knife is a 154cm grip. i abuse the snot outta that knife and it keeps on cutting. just touch it up once in a blue and your good. people seem to get dazzled by the newest super steel, and dont get me wrong im not immune to the appeal but that doesnt mean if a steel isnt the newest, the most advanced, the most expensive that it must be obsolete. i think its a perfect choice for a hardworking , everyday work knife.

I put one of my older Rift into a BOB and it has sat untouched for over 2 years. I pulled it out to check on it and was amazed at how sharp it was. It was still hair whittling sharp. Not a huge deal but it does take one heck of an edge. Some other knife steels that are more prone to oxidation seem to lose a bit of their edge over time it seems. I've had M4 seem to get duller over a couple months time and assume it is due to slight oxidation at the very edge. I'm not talking about significant dulling but going from tree topping sharp to hair popping sharp. Of course it could be in my head but it seems like it happens.

Anyways, BM does good with 154CM and I have no problem buying though I do tend to go with the more fancy super steels. I also like BM D2.

That's why I still have a few 154CM blades from BM :D They are just good stuff. Good steel is good steel. Simple as that.

Grip 551 is in my pocket most days. Love that knife, and for the most part, I just hit it with a strop once a week to maintain the edge.

The cutting edge was a bit uneven from BM so I did have to sort that out, but I haven't had to actually sharpen the knife for about 4 months, and it shows very little signs of wear.

I honestly don't understand people who complain about the cheap handle and junk steel unless they really haven't used the knife and only parrot what others have said.

Yeah, also remember that Benchmade was doing M2 blades back in 2005 and earlier, before any other production knife company was running high speed tool steel for folding knife blades.

My 550HG grip is approaching 5 years of EDC rotation. It has been to the beach, hunting, carving, edc use, stonewashed, clip looks like crap....her name is Goose.

For me, 154CM is a good balanced steel, Benchmade did it justice.

I like BM's 154CM also but prefer their S30V. It may be that it just seems to come in the knives I like to EDC the most, like the 940 in my pocket now, and the full-size Ritter Grip back at home. But I have no problems carrying and using their 154CM. In fact, my primary EDC for about 6 or 7 years was a mini grip in 154CM.

I carry knives and travel. That Bench is great knife. size and color maybe an issue

i try too keep a knife at or under 3.5" since that will be legal too carry in most states the blade is 3.87 so orange is not the best idea for EDC.

if you emergecy work or for other where orange is needed, but my bow hunter in me buys black, green, and other more discrete colors.

your likely to draw attention, black also makes things look smaller - i suggest for EDC you check each state and city

chicago is 2.5 inches, indiana is 3.5

orange and too long knife seems like bad idea

I have a Mini-Onslaught in 154cm and prefer it over harder S30V/S35VN blades. Because the 154cm will roll, when the latter chip.
