Don't take that the wrong way, but yesterday I was running to Grizzly to pick up some belts and I decided to stop by a place called "Woodworking 101" that is right across the street from it.

That place is fantastic! If it's an exotic wood, they have it. I bought a big ol' chunk of Bocote for $3! You can also buy their stuff in regular "lumber size" if you want. I'll be visiting that place many times. It's nice to check out the wood before you buy it.

I was there last weekend, your right they have some really nice wood. The only problem I found was that most of it is to thin for me. I got a chunk of pink ivory, tullip wood and some maple. The rest was to thin or cut into small square chunks. Have you been to OP hardwoods on north Glenstone, they got all sizes but not the best selection, but for bocote, cocobolo, ebony they'll cut any length..

Those places are hard on a poor old knifemaker, when you first walk in, you know, you don't have near enough money in your pocket. :D

Yeah, they have a whole selection of wood for "pen-making." I saw that they had a lot of thin stuff on their tables, but the more I looked around, the more I'd find a lot of "chunks" of the different types of wood.

You know, I live less than a 1/4 mile from there, but did ol' Bill stop by for a visit? :D

Michael, sorry for not giving you a call, but us hillbillys get totally confused in big cities with all the traffic, lights and stores. I'm just like a kid in a candy store whenever my wife lets me go to town, and when she says Springfield, hell I can't sleep all night. :D
Maybe I can come by the next time I'm down that way.

Bill

Heh heh, Burchtree said "check out the wood". Heh heh.

Sorry, I couldn't resist a little Beavis and Butthead humor! :D

Can anyone tell that I am bored today at work? :)

Aren't we all? I think I've checked these forums about a 100 times today.

Yeah, but it took you a whole 22 minutes to find and reply to my post! Better work on that reaction time! :):D

naw, it just took me 21 minutes to think of a response. :D

Man I'm jealous! :( I work for a Big Brother-type bureacracy and the All Seeing Eye counts bandwidth and records all URLs. The Managers use this valuable information when handing out Performance Based Merit Increases (If Merited). Goes without saying, internet entertainment is strictly and specifically Verboten by Company Policy. In fact, we have to click a button every time we log onto the network assuring Big Brother we know and understand we're not supposed to use the internet for Personal Business. Y'all got it Made!

Everyone say "hello" to big brother. Hellloooooo! If you're watching me, this is for work.

:D

Oh man, oh man, it's a good thing thing you live up on a hill or your shoes would be full of it by now.....

I didn't do squat today, how 'bout you, bud?? Man have I gotten spoiled this last year not workin for the man anymore...

Ain't wood shops great? We have one here called (oddly enough) "The Wood Shop". I've gotten all kinds of gee-whiz neat-o species of hard woods there. They got a HUGE shipment of Cocobolo in and I've been nearly delirious every time I go there now from the sheer volume of it. Guy tells me they'll have it on sale till September.:D
I just recently got a 10 lb. maple burl from them for about $24.00. Gawd, that thing is purty. Now, I just need to get off the ol' duff and get a stabilizing set-up going.

Did I mention that I REEALLY love that place?

All the best and happy wood hunting,
Mike U.

There's a pic from the Yale Library. Can't say that it seems that impressive.

There's supposedly some information, doesn't show picture of the actual wood.

Might look under Wild Olive, as the first pic seems to indicate that that's another name for the wood.
