Well I took the plunge and thanks to Lexi I have my first Busse on order a Swatmandu with blue and black G10s. Since two is one and one is none, I convinced myself that I need to order a second Busse. I have a couple of options both are with a satin blade. A NMSFNO or an ASH LE. I am not sure what scale to select yet and I am not sure what is available. I am sure I need to go with either paper, canvas or G10. I have searched on previous posts and I see the back and forth between people's preferences. I have also dedicated a few hours looking at pictures. I must confess that has not helped because I like so manny of them.

Neither option will be heavenly used as I will use it in camp while hunting but I do not go as often as I want. So use is not necessarily why I am doing this. Although I while always welcome opinions of which is the best choice, and yes I should get both (although the wife does not agree). My main concern is what should I be looking on my first custom shop order. Is there options that I should be considering. Is there a better way to order either knife in your expert opinions. I know manny of you have owned multiple versions of each knife and has used them extensively. So I value any recommendations.

Thanks in advance for the help.

ASH1 (especially in .220 thickness) is a great blade, I may have one.. !!!! You wont get one directly from the shop at the moment however (given I have been trying for a YEAR !!). Ithink NMSFNO blanks will be available for you. Both crop up in the EX here (the ASH much less so) from time to time.

First off, I'd choose the NMSFNO over the ASH because it's a little bigger and I'd be able to do more with it. Plus it would fit my hand better.

I prefer canvas over G10 for my users but that's just me. I plan to get some more G10 users so I can stop being such a canvas snob.

You can order the NMSFNO from the custom shop and get exactly what you want or you could watch the exchange. You may see a combat grade that you like more and at a lower price. I'd also consider a NMFSH in either B.I.G. or combat grade. It's a little bigger than a NMSFNO and can be had for less than a satin NMSFNO in most cases.

Since you're getting the Swatmandu -- I recommend the NMSFNO or the ASHBM. Both the NMSFNO and the ASHBM are phenomenal blades. The ASHBM would compliment the SWATmandu soooo well. However, I do also love the versatility of the NMSFNO. Good luck. Buy both.

Only dedicated Busse Kin aficionados could possibly keep up with or decipher all these letters. LOL

I prefer the ASH1 over the NMSFNO for better handling. But many swear by that bigger blade. I have both, and most likely you will also. Watch the BF Exchange, and enjoy the hunt for a good user at a lower price...;-)

Wow this community is fantastic such quick help. Thanks for the info so far. Should I look for a convex, a saber or flat grind. I would think that the NMSFNO should be a convex grind but what about the Ash

FWIW and IMHO the ASHBM > NMSFNO when paired with the SWatmandu. Lol brb g2g -- need to sharpen my MOHRTM

The NMSFNO will have a saber/convex blade profile with either a convex edge or a V edge.

With Swatmandu heading your way I'd go with NMSFNO so you have medium and large'ish bases covered. A NMFSH would be a good option too.
ASH is a 'one knife' for everything kinda knife, and if you're looking for 2-3 knife set up then bigger would serve you well.
Then you'll be left with a vacancy in the 3-4 inch department... AMS, Active Duty (from CS), LMS...

Personally I prefer canvas micarta for my users, especially the larger ones.

Are you talking about an ASHBM or just an ASH that they have the blank for? The first one is a long chopper, the second is not a whole lot larger than the swatmandu.

The nicest NMSFNO I ever had was one that was only .22" thick. If I was ordering a custom shop version, I would ask for that one modification along with handsmoothed handles. I shouldn't have let that one go...

The ASHBM goes well with it too, you really can't go wrong either way, but I believe the NMSFNO, especially a slightly thinner custom version, would be more sought after if you ever decided to sell it later.

Whatever you pick, getting it with matching blue/black g10 for your swatmandu would be pretty sweet, but nothing wrong with canvas for the feeling of a warmer handled user either.

It's nice to have these kinds of dilemmas, good luck! ;)

The answer is simple, you need a chopper!

Battle Mistress!

of course, a mountain man du would work, or a KZII, or a basic 11, or a 1111, or a 1311, or........

I'm a big fan of pictures, especially for comparison purposes. Not sure if this will help or potentially hurt long-term (financially speaking), of course. :D

Here's a NMFBM, ASH, and NMFSH...the last two in the recently released Industrial Grade finish (BIG).

Good luck, sir!

Thanks for all the help. I would look into the smooth canvas and I may go with both the Ash 1 LE and the NMSFNO it is too difficult to make the decision. What I am not sure if what kind of grind I want if I have options. I do not think I want spacers as my hands are not that big. Thanks again for the recommendations and the pictures if anybody has some other considerations that I should made please let me know.

Garth thanks I did earlier today as a suggestion from Lexi who is awesome and help me with the Swatmandu and the two blanks. I may even call if it is best.

If I can help at all just let me know.

Just shoot me an email at garth@ bussecombat.com

The ASH-1 gets a whole lotta love here by most folk, but not so much by me. But, I must say, that sabre BIG ASH-! is a good looking knife. Not going all in like Andy, but still, a good looking knife.

(sabre SFNO are still mo bettah :D)
