well, "pulled the trigger" on my first Esee, a 4" in Coyote/tan. bought it local for $130 including tax; good deal? i kinda feel like im in some cool new "club".

How do most of you wear the sheath? with the MOLLE locks or the full MOLLE drop-leg sheath attachment?

how well does the epoxy(?) coating stay on through rough treatment, such as batoning through wood?

most any oil be ok for constant treating of the exposed blade? i currently have a TOPS and a Benchmade in 1095. the TOPS Wolfpup XL i used to butcher a deer and the exposed edge now has stains even after sharpening and lubricating. The Benchmade CSK II has only been used on wood and some light digging but shows no rust or stain.

any other words of wisdom for use or care or just cool stories of how you used your Esee to save the day would be great thank you ! - Eric

PS: anyone know why the Esee subforum was closed? thank you

Welcome, brother.

Closed? Jeff merely decided to go boldly where many a knifemaker has gone before. Essentially, he wanted complete control over his own Forum.

Nothing wrong with that.

Wisdom? I'm a scientist. I do knowledge ... but not wisdom. For that, you need Bastid and Esav Benyamin. Maybe MikeH.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

1. I use the molle locks, myself.

2. I use a marine tuffcoat cloth usually for carbon steel. Occasionally, for my more rusty knives, I'll use a nice mineral oil or a RenWax.

3. Jeff's epoxy coating works pretty well. My 6 is still pretty well coated after much batoning.

It's a good knife. Very good in fact. I think you paid a bit more than you absolutely had to, but not by a huge amount, and you did support a local brick and mortar business which I think is classy

Specifically, Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin wanted to allow for a fairly broad variety of topics (survival techniques, non-knife gear reviews, etc.) in the ESEE subforum. Other parties wanted to keep the discussion more narrowly focused to ESEE products and move the non-knife discussions to subforums like Wilderness & Survival Skills, Gadgets & Gear, etc. In the end they agreed to disagree.

Congrats! Save up because it won't be your last ESEE.

$130 may have been a little high but your supporting local business so

I know how that feels. This is half of them:

You don't know what you're talking about.
They were offered their own subforum to keep the survival stuff in, with no further intervention. They didn't want "too many forums" because it was "too much work"..... now they have have a bunch of subforums.

a smaller esee blade i like to wear them horizontally on my left front hip.. or on my lower back horizontally.. its nice

the esee six i make a paracord belt loop like it shows on the papers it comes with its actually comfortable... it rides high but i barley notice it.

Yay! I joined the club as well with my new Junglas that arrived this morning :D
I plan on using it for extended hiking trips and so I'll be using the MOLLE webbing to attach it only to my backpack.

Me too bro! Not only that, but it opened my eyes to fixed blades. Just bought my first ESEE - and what else but the IZULA?! In tan.

Actually, I believe RandomAyes had it right. Based on hearing much the same from Jeff & Mike, and just about everyone else directly involved with the move.

I'm not going to debate this and throw the thread off topic. I also saw what jeff and mike have been telling people, here and on their forum. There is always two sides to every story. You should consider that fact when people start feeding you one side.

Anyhow, that drama aside (it's really a dead issue at this point) welcome to the club! I prefer the 3 to the 4 myself, as I like the thinner blade. The 6 and the Lite Machete are my favorites though. Give me the Lite and either the 3 or the 6 and I can get anything done I could ever want to do with a blade in the woods.

Welcome to the addiction! ESEE knives are powdercoated, which holds up extremely well and takes a long time to wear off.

problem with my new Esee.... the more i look at and fondle it, the more i wonder why i wasted so much money and effort for all my other knives.... my life has been wasted. :(

seriously though, this knife just has this "presence" that i cant explain, it's the embodyment of all outdoors in 1095 and linen micarta! now i will sell some things and get the Junglas or maybe an Esee 3" so i can carry legaly in town. thing that sucks is that i got a new addiction in a horrible economy. oh well, new toys to save for. ---- Eric

Take your time and choose carefully ; you may end up with more than you need ;)
