We are on our way to BirGorkha to do Bishwakarma puja today so cannot make a lot of posts. Goat was purchased yesterday -- 16 KG so there should be plenty for puja and food. I have the camera ready and a couple of rolls of film so we will share this special day when I get back.

As a Buddhist I do not like the killing but I will say my special prayer for the goat and give my utmost respect to the kamis and their belief system, keeping in mind that many animals are slaughtered all over the world everyday to provide food for humans and few of them will receive the prayers and blessings our goat will receive today.

Please join us in this special prayer.

Blessings from Suryabenai, Nepal.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle,

I understand your feelings about the killing, but I think your decision to honor the kami's beliefs is a good one. At least the killing of this one animal is done for pure reasons and the positive effects of the sacrifice will be felt for a long time to come. I will join in that prayer as well.

Best wishes and safe travels. Can't wait to see pics!

I wish I was there with you Uncle Bill! I would like to see this ceremony in person. Maybe someday. Take care and my prayers are with you all!

May BirGhorka have a great Bishwakarma Puja and we forumites look forward to your pix and report on this, when available.

The puja was a huge success. We had 35 kamis present, full timers, part timers, consultants and technical advisors.

It was a truly religious experience and quite moving. I got about 75 pictures which I'll be sharing with you when I return.

Stay well all and blessings from Anamangar and Suryabenai, Nepal!!

Khukuri FAQ

That's a lot of kamis.

And a lot of expertise in working with steel.

The current global economy may ignore them and treat them like scum, but I say there will come a time when their skills are sorely missed.

Dave, I treat the kamis like brothers and call them brother. They are not quite sure how to respond but I want them to know that I along with most other Americans do not adhere to the caste system and place great value on their skill.

We are doing our best to encourage the skills and traditions and keep them alive.

Blessings from Suryabenai!

Bill, if you sacrifice a goat, are you allowed to eat it afterwards?
